The Role

Description
This role requires off-shift work, Thursday to Monday 4PM to Midnight eastern .
The successful Operations Systems Engineer is required to have a strong proficiency with Linux server administration, troubleshooting, and database administration. A working knowledge of Windows server administration, DBA-related queries, and good communication skills. The Operations Systems Engineer engineer must be self-directed, a self-starter and professional in their interactions with others.

Our technology is a key enabler to things like smarter car programs, driver customization opportunities, advanced active safety systems, super cruise and autonomous driving. Our innovation teams are driving game changing features to the automotive industry. We don't expect candidates to understand all of these technologies. Individual teams focus on a smaller set of technologies. Our organization uses a lot of technologies, affording employees the opportunities to learn new skills and technologies.
Additional Description

  • Oversee the scheduling and execution of patching.
  • 1st level triage response
  • Schedule and document application upgrades within the GM Data Center and new Azure space.
  • Document and report out any issues discovered after others work (i.e. infrastructure, associate team migrations, etc.)
  • Manage key strategic information with regards to systems OS and DB to ensure SoTD standards are met
  • Identify and document (Health Check) system vulnerabilities and work with others on mitigation action plans; tracking corrective actions
  • Provide support to other teams for root cause analysis.
  • Strong ability to expertly capture and analyze data.
  • Suggest opportunities for improvements within the team.
  • Stay on top of industry trends, technologies, and standard methodologies.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with peers, business analysts, and subject matter experts.
  • Adaptable/flexible - ability to work in an environment that requires frequent shifts in focus.
  • 4-year College or higher degree preferably in computer science, software engineering, information systems, mathematics, data analytics or statistics or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2+ years relevant work experience.
  • Experience with multiple OS (Primarily *nix with some Windows).
  • Proficiency with Linux server administration and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with application software troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with GM's Application Security Framework (ASF).

The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant in the California Bay Area which includes the following counties: Marin, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz might be paid in accordance with the California law.
The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.
The annual salary range for this role is $118,000 - $188,400. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
