DESRI

DESRI (formerly D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments) is a market-leading owner and operator of renewable energy projects throughout the United States. We have acquired or developed approximately 11 gigawatts of contracted capacity across a portfolio of over 70 renewable energy projects in 24 states.

About the role

DESRI is seeking a talented and motivated individual to join its Engineering and BESS team as an Associate or Manager, SCADA Execution Engineer, title to be commensurate with experience. This individual will focus primarily on battery energy storage systems (BESS) and play a key role in the design review, integration, and implementation of SCADA and control systems across DESRI’s portfolio. The role provides the opportunity to shape how DESRI’s renewable and storage projects are monitored, controlled, and optimized. You will collaborate across engineering, construction, operations, and technology teams to ensure seamless integration of BESS assets into DESRI’s supervisory and data management systems, supporting safe, efficient, and reliable operations.

What you'll do

You will lead or support the execution of SCADA and controls integration for utility-scale battery storage projects, ensuring robust system performance and operational readiness. Responsibilities include conducting detailed SCADA design reviews, defining technical specifications, and supporting EPC scoping and vendor selection for controls and monitoring systems. You’ll develop integration strategies to connect battery systems with energy management systems (EMS), plant controllers, and DESRI’s central monitoring platform.

You’ll create and maintain comprehensive points lists, alarm and data mapping documentation, and tag naming conventions for BESS and related infrastructure. You’ll oversee or assist with configuration of alarming, data historian setup, and control logic verification, ensuring alignment with operational requirements and industry best practices. You’ll work closely with EPCs and integrators during design, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site commissioning to verify communication interfaces, system performance, and data accuracy.

You’ll support DESRI’s operations and commissioning teams by troubleshooting SCADA integration issues, validating telemetry data, and ensuring systems are optimized for performance, reliability, and cybersecurity. You’ll contribute to continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned, standardizing SCADA templates, and implementing best practices across DESRI’s growing battery storage and renewable energy portfolio.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field is required. A master’s degree in engineering, controls, or renewable energy systems is a plus.
  • Candidates must have at least three years of relevant experience in SCADA, controls, or power systems integration.
  • Experience with utility-scale battery energy storage systems is strongly preferred, including familiarity with energy management systems (EMS), battery management systems (BMS), power conversion systems (PCS), and plant controllers. Proficiency in developing or managing points lists, alarm configurations, and data mapping between systems is required.
  • Candidates should have strong knowledge of SCADA architectures, industrial communication protocols, data management, and system testing/commissioning practices. Familiarity with NERC/CIP, cybersecurity, and utility telemetry requirements is a plus. Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Occasional travel to project sites and vendor facilities will be required for design reviews, testing, and commissioning support.
  • The expected annual base salary for this position is $120,000 to $150,000, commensurate with experience. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage.
