OVERVIEW

We're looking for an Associate Security Engineer to join our fast moving team. We work on a range of interesting and challenging problems, from supporting thousands of concurrent shoppers and processing millions of data points in real time, to determining the best route for deliveries and predicting store inventory levels.

Our goal is to run the world's most trusted and secure grocery delivery platform. We work across all layers of our infrastructure to ensure we deploy trustworthy systems and protect our customers’, shoppers’, and partners’ data.

As one of the early members of the Security Team, you will have a tremendous impact on Instacart's security posture and engineering culture. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to have a large sense of ownership, grow extraordinarily in their career, develop cross-functional technical and soft skills. Our platform is complex, rapidly scaling and processing millions of transactions in real-time, all of the time.

ABOUT THE JOB

Develop techniques and frameworks proactively to find and fix security issues
Identify gaps and weaknesses in the security processes and solutions
Conduct application design, code reviews and penetration tests on an ongoing basis
Perform research on the new attack vectors that might affect Instacart and present the findings
Provide security training and outreach to our internal development teams to achieve a consistently high security bar
Participate in incident response and bug bounty program triage processes

ABOUT YOU

Dexterity to identify, analyze, scope, contain and eradicate real-world threats
Knowledge of web application vulnerabilities, threats and mitigations
BS or MS in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering or equivalent work experience
Enthusiasm for solving interesting problems
Self-motivation and a strong sense of ownership
Experience with Ruby and/or Python or the desire to learn them quickly
Experience level - Junior or Recent graduate

Lancaster works with Instacart ERGS through his events-focused role. He also co-leads its LGBTQIA+ ERG, Rainbow Carrots. “We’ve made efforts towards allyship, inclusivity and amplifying intersectional voices of the LGBTQIA+ community,” he said. Pride Month events (themed “Community: Connectedness in our now Virtual World”) included a fundraiser for nonprofit Rainbow Railroad, a Gin and Gender class, and guest speakers.

My involvement with the Rainbow Carrots ERG has given me the opportunity to influence the voice of LGBTQIA+ community on a corporate level and educate others in meaningful ways — providing a list of actionable items that speak to the difference between advocacy and allyship.
