About This Role

We are looking for a Digital Managing Editor to join our Publishing team. This role will be focused on managing the digital editorial calendar in partnership with other editors, as well as assigning and editing new digital MasterClass articles, to drive growth of our online education platform. This is a great opportunity for someone who has previous editorial experience paired with an interest in the business of digital publishing. Must be comfortable with a high volume of work while upholding the highest standards of editorial integrity. 

What We’re Looking For

  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Deadline-driven. 
  • Ability to balance data/insights and editorial acumen when making decisions about content.
  • Capable of creating and maintaining an editorial calendar in accordance with key dates and other priorities. 
  • Excellent writing and editing skills—demonstrates a high level of confidence in making decisions ranging from the grammatical to tactical SEO optimizations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively. 
  • Proven leadership abilities; capable of managing a team of direct reports to write, edit, and publish articles on tight deadlines. 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director of Publishing to follow established editorial calendar and make informed content decisions.
  • Support Publishing team in brainstorming, executing, and iterating on content experiments.
  • Assign and edit articles according to publishing schedule.
  • Review all articles for brand style and adherence to SEO best practices. 
  • Identify opportunities to develop clusters of content around high leverage topics.
  • Serve as thought partner to the Director of Publishing, and assist in final article approvals. 
  • Collaborate with Editors in maintaining and improving content performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years digital media or digital publishing experience
  • Previous experience with SEO preferred but not necessary 
  • Self-starter and highly motivated 
  • Growth mindset
  • Roll-up-your-sleeves attitude and grit when faced with ambitious goals 
  • Highly organized and laser focused; must be able to quickly identify everything from grammatical and spelling errors to additional content creation opportunities 
  • Excited to work with an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Full-time in our San Francisco or Los Angeles office. 
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
