The Role

#WeAreCrowdStrike and our mission is to stop breaches. As a global leader in cybersecurity, our team changed the game. Since our inception, our market leading cloud-native platform has offered unparalleled protection against the most sophisticated cyberattacks. We work on large scale distributed systems, processing over 1 trillion events a day with a petabyte of RAM deployed in our Cassandra clusters - and this traffic is growing daily. We're looking for people with limitless passion, a relentless focus on innovation and a fanatical commitment to developing and shaping our cybersecurity platform. Consistently recognized as a top workplace, CrowdStrike is committed to cultivating an inclusive, remote-first culture that offers people the autonomy and flexibility to balance the needs of work and life while taking their career to the next level. Interested in working for a company that sets the standard and leads with integrity? Join us on a mission that matters - one team, one fight.
About the role:
CrowdStrike is seeking an experienced Data Center Tooling Engineer to join the Data Center Infrastructure team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure efficiently operates and upon which our innovative services are delivered. This person should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where adaptability and flexibility will be key to their success.
The candidate we seek is a forward thinking IT professional with deep experience applying and developing software tooling and automation solutions, to address complex operational issues.
The ideal candidate should have a strong background in software architecture, be comfortable working independently, and confident enough to suggest solutions. They should also be a natural collaborator, able to distill the needs of stakeholders and subject matter experts and translate these into long-term automated solutions. Extensive knowledge of managing servers, DCIM automation, programming/scripting, and performing complex projects in a large-scale, distributed data center environment is an advantage.
Although this is primarily a software development role (Python experience preferred), we're looking for someone that also has an intermediate-level understanding of engineering concepts such as IPMI, network routing and subnets, the physical layout and connections of both stand-alone and chassis servers, and SNMP to name a few examples.
What You'll Do:

  • Assist with the development, deployment and maintenance of a wide variety of automation software, including but not limited to:
    • API development
    • Custom tooling development affecting server hardware
    • Asset security auditing and verification
    • Troubleshooting and triage
    • Composing thorough unit and integration tests
    • Report generation
  • DCIM asset creation and auditing
  • Create documentation both for developers and end-users
  • Provide training for developed applications and tools to other engineers and technicians
  • Participate in organization-wide major initiatives and cross functional group projects
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned

What You'll Need:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • 3+ years combined experience with Linux based operating systems
  • 2+ years experience working closely with Data Center Systems and Architecture
  • 2+ years combined experience in server hardware, networking and systems management
  • 1+ years experience working with a Data Center Inventory Management Tool (DCIM)
  • Varsity-level Python programming
  • Solid design- and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with modern version control systems
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work independently and meet deadlines
  • Ability to translate technical details into simple terminology both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to use independent judgment to make justifiable decisions while problem solving
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced and high visibility environment
  • Ability to manage expectations and provide proactive status updates
  • Ability to effectively work with and communicate with all levels of staff
  • Demonstrable ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a methodical and disciplined manner
  • High level of organization when performing tasks related to concurrent project priorities
