Who we are:

MasterClass is transforming online education by enabling anyone in the world to learn from the very best.  We are deconstructing what makes an actor able to cry on demand, how an athlete defies gravity, and what it takes to write a bestseller.  Our online learning content is available to students anywhere anytime, which supports our mission to ignite the greatness in others.

We are a quickly growing VC-funded startup based in San Francisco, with additional offices in Los Angeles.  We have created online classes taught by famous masters— Gordon Ramsay, Serena Williams, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Sara Blakely, David Sedaris, Bobbi Brown, Timbaland, Anna Wintour and many more to come.

Since launching in 2015, we have been growing our team. Apply now to find out more about what we are doing behind the scenes.

What we are looking for:

Data, and how it is used, plays a central role at MasterClass and is at the heart of how we make business, product, content, marketing and operational decisions. Our growing Data organization (Analytics, Data Science, and Data Engineering) is a specialized, cross-functional group that collaborates with a variety of departments to drive decisions and provide direction for future growth at MasterClass. We are looking for an exceptional analytics engineer whose work will enable and power data-driven initiatives across the company. The ideal candidate for this role requires someone with the ability to develop, standardize, implement, and validate our measurement practice across platforms.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Translate business questions from stakeholders into detailed tracking implementation specifications across new and existing platforms and devices
  • Ensure and validate that all product and features have accurate measurement and that the data is populated in reports as expected (reports can be built in-house via Looker or vendor tools such as Amplitude)
  • Partner with multiple stakeholders to develop and execute appropriate measurement plan and tagging strategy for Segment (and its downstream destinations) to satisfy analytics use cases
  • Develop documentation of use cases, tracking specs and QA results and best practices
  • Assist in establishing governance, best practice operational and ad-hoc processes for data capture changes
  • Participate with product and engineering in sprint planning and bug triage efforts.
  • Perform QA and sign-off on new or updated analytics implementations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related quantitative field. Advanced degree preferred
  • 2+ years of professional experience as an Analytics Engineer, preferably for an online content, video, subscription or e-commerce property/platform
  • 2+ years of professional experience defining, tracking, and measuring metrics in partnership with Product and Engineering for large scale consumer or enterprise companies
  • 2+ years of professional experience supporting product analytics and tagging events (ideally using Segment, Amplitude and tools that connect to them, e.g. Google, FB)
  • 1+ year of professional experience with Looker, Tableau, or Power BI
  • Professional experience with JIRA and Confluence, and Agile experience
  • Deep understanding of how analytics data are instrumented, extracted, and used in reporting
  • Exemplary relationship builder who is consultative in nature and form partnerships with coworkers and customers
  • Ability to work full-time in our San Francisco office
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
