We are looking for a Credit Quantitative Risk Modeling Analyst with a deep understanding of statistical models and capital market products to support our growing credit product offerings. You will be part of the team to design, develop, implement, maintain and document a suite of credit risk models. This role provides a unique opportunity to be part of establishing risk infrastructure and systems at Coinbase. You will be directly partnering with our risk managers,  product teams, engineering team and other cross-functional stakeholders to deliver cutting edge tools for supporting strong risk management. The right candidate will enjoy operating in a dynamic, digital asset market environment and collaborating with top talents across the globe. This role will report to the Senior Manager of Credit Quantitative Risk Modeling, and will be based remotely in the United States.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Develop quantitative risk models for various capital market products.
  • Test model functionalities, sensitivities and robustness.
  • Implement the models into the firm’s risk system.
  • Write model technical documentation.
  • Research/learn modeling methodologies applicable to crypto currencies.


What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • Masters or Phd degree in a highly quantitative field (such as Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Financial Engineering, etc.)
  • 2+ years of experience working in quantitative risk model development or quantitative research function within Investment Banking / Asset Management / Commercial Banking.
  • Strong programming skills: Python (preferred) or R, SQL.
  • Familiar with the some of the following financial products and understand the key risk factors associated with these products: security backed lending, margin trading, repo, prime brokerage services (such as short selling), equity derivatives (swaps, options, futures)
  • Have a deep understanding of different types of statistical and machine learning models/methodologies used in the financial industry: time series models, bayesian models, logistic/linear regression models, probit model, random forest, gradient boosting, etc. 
  • Have a good understanding of Monte Carlo Simulation and Brownian motion in the financial industry setting. 
  • Understand the key credit risk and market risk assessment metrics and how to model these metrics: Potential Exposure, Probability of Default, Exposure at Default, Loss Given Default, Volatility, Market Liquidity, etc.
  • Strong technical written skills for model documentation.
  • Be able to communicate technical findings/issues clearly, especially to non-technical audiences. 
  • Strong willingness to take ownership and collaborate with others.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with derivative pricing models and calibrating volatility surface.
  • Experience with regulatory capital models (such as Asymptotic Single Risk Factor model, multi-factor models).
  • Experience working with Snowflake, Salesforce data.
