About the Role:  

The Planet creative team is looking for a spatial thinker with a passion for remote sensing, maps and image processing to join our team. You will help the Marketing team tell stories with Planet’s constellations of medium- and high-resolution satellites—and create imagery from satellite data and prepare it for publication. For the first time in history, we have the ability to image the entire landmass of the Earth every day and we’re looking for someone who’s excited about leveraging this one-of-a-kind dataset in new and compelling ways.   

A significant part of the job is working to quickly provide compelling Planet imagery to journalists from all over the world that will enable their reporting. You’ll work closely with the Communications Lead and the rest of the Datavisualization team to share imagery with the press, think tanks and analysts as they try to meet tight deadlines. 

You’ll become adept at finding and telling stories that showcase novel applications of Planet’s unique products, and be able to combine our imagery with complementary datasets. Knowledge of Earth observation and remote sensing technologies will help you hit the ground running. And because we’re an “agile aerospace” company, you’ll need to be prepared to adjust priorities and be capable of juggling multiple deadlines at once. 

The position is based in the San Francisco office and will require the occasional on-call weekend or holiday shift.The news never stops! 

What You Bring:

  • Proficiency using software such as Adobe Photoshop, experience with color-correction a plus.
  • Knowledgeable in Geographic Information Systems and experience working with spatial data. 
  • Familiarity with basic cartographic and remote sensing principles a plus
  • Familiarity and interest in journalism & storytelling
