Engineering Manager, Machine Learning Platform
About the role
Chime is seeking a hands-on engineering leader to manage and grow our machine learning platform team. This role will lead the ML Platform team’s mission to empower data scientists to develop and deploy the most impactful ML solutions for the business rapidly and scalably. This is a leadership role within the Machine Learning and Data Science (MLDS) organization that combats fraud, improves member experience, creates recommendations for users and builds the infrastructure to support machine learning in production.
In this role, you can expect to
- Own our ML platform and work with data science and data engineering to increase the scale and efficiency with which we build, deploy, serve, experiment, monitor, and scale our machine learning models
- Contribute to ML platform strategy and roadmap and define technical excellence for ML engineering at Chime
- Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders and the team to execute on your ML platform infrastructure roadmap
- Contribute to designing, scoping, planning and resource allocation of large ML projects
- Mentor and develop team members, and foster a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement
- Grow the team and increase its impact by hiring high-caliber engineers to solve our most impactful machine learning infrastructure problems
To thrive in this role, you have
- 3+ years managing/leading teams of data scientists and/or machine learning engineers
- 7+ years industry experience (consumer tech preferred) building and owning infrastructure for machine learning pipelines and/or services end to end
- A CS degree, with experience building production ML pipelines or infrastructure (development, deployment, inference and monitoring) at scale
- Experience building the infrastructure and platform to support a large number of ML models throughout the model lifecycle (building, testing, experimenting, deploying and supporting in production)
- Strong programming skills (Python preferred) with intermediate to advanced knowledge of SQL and the ability to wrangle data from many disparate data sources
- Hands-on experience with some of the technologies we use: Spark, Kafka, Airflow, Redis, MySQL, Postgres, Snowflake and Looker, and cloud computing and managed services (AWS preferred)
- Experience communicating and collaborating with leaders across the organization, which include stakeholders in engineering, data, product, risk, and member services organizations
