Calico is a research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies to increase our understanding of the biology of aging, and, using this knowledge, to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives. Executing this mission will require an unprecedented level of interdisciplinary effort and a long-term focus for which funding is already in place.

Position description:

We seek a Principal Investigator with an interest and experience in translational research to lead a research lab and to develop programs whose ultimate goal is to slow the rate of aging and extend health span in humans. The PI will establish and manage a lab and interface with our late-stage research and early development teams in order to help realize the therapeutic potential of our basic science discoveries. The PI will be responsible for identifying translational research opportunities in areas related to aging and age-related diseases, which could include for example: metabolism, immunometabolism, integrated physiology, bioenergetics or homeostatic control of biological systems. Calico provides a scientifically stimulating and collaborative working environment and the successful candidate will interact with scientists from a range of disciplines including basic research, computational biology and pharmacology as well as access to state-of-the-art core technology support. The translational PI will be expected to forge collaborations with scientists at leading academic institutions to advance in-house research program(s) as well as spearhead translational projects with our pharmaceutical partners at AbbVie Pharmaceuticals to help develop clinical interventions. 

Position requirements: 

• PhD or MD/PhD, with postdoctoral training in a relevant biological science.
• Proven record of innovative in translational research with an established publication record in high-impact journal and patents.
• Demonstrated expertise in running a research program and mentorship.
• Knowledge of drug development with direct experience in the pharmaceutical industry is strongly desired.
• Flexibility and a willingness to work as part of cross-functional teams and can build relationships and collaborations with scientific leaders, KOLs, academic partners, and CROs.
