ABOUT THE AI and ML TEAM

The Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML) team at Varo is a small, passionate team driven to help people improve their financial lives with modern state of the art AI and ML technology. A lot of our services are implemented in Python and Java/Kotlin. Over the next year we will be building some key pieces of our ML infrastructure such as a centralized feature store and model service so if you are looking for a growth opportunity come join us! ABOUT THE PRINCIPAL MACHINE LEARNING ROLE

As a Principal Machine Learning Engineer you will play a key role in driving and executing the vision of Varo as a leader in AI and Machine Learning. You will help build scalable, reliable and performant machine learning systems with all the required monitoring and alerting. You will be responsible for owning project(s) from design to deployment. This is initially an individual contributor role but could evolve into a leadership role within the team.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Build and deploy production-ready code that is high quality, robust, efficient, and maintainable
• Scope and build libraries and services for the AI & ML team
• Leverage software engineering and design best practices
• Evangelize reliability, documentation, and software engineering best practices to the engineering organization
• Mentor junior team members, help maintain and improve testing methodologies and documentation
• Work in a cross-functional capacity with product, user research and business

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES THAT'LL HELP YOU BE GREAT

• 10 years software experience with 2+ years of deploying machine learning models to production is required
• Strong development experience with Python is a must along with ML libraries (numpy, scikit learn, tensorflow)
• Some familiarity with Java or Kotlin is also preferred
• Familiarity with Amazon Web Services is a must(experience with Sagemaker is a plus)
• Experience with Apache Kafka, Spark and building event-based ML systems
• Experience in SQL, Redshift and database optimization
• Proven ability to thrive in a fast-moving, team-oriented, startup environment
