Volta Charging is on a mission to accelerate the adoption of the electric vehicle by building electric vehicle charging networks in major metropolitan areas. Charging is typically delivered at no cost to drivers and monetized through brand sponsorships and digital media content.

We are seeking a high-performing Senior Analyst to join our Business Operations team, working on data-driven projects to improve Volta’s operational efficiency, increase customer engagement, and incubate nascent capabilities. This is a demanding but rewarding role for anyone intellectually curious, detail-oriented, and intrinsically motivated to “move the needle” in terms of impact at a fast-growing startup.

The Senior Analyst, Business Operations will be instrumental in cementing the “BizOps” brand at Volta by setting an example with their work ethic, strong interpersonal skills, and production of polished, high-quality deliverables. The successful candidate can expect a wide variety of assignments, some on short deadlines, generally with the goal of evaluating strategic decision-making or spurring business leaders to choose a course of action. Cross-functional stakeholders for this position will include Sales, Field Operations, Customer Success, Marketing, Product, Legal, and Volta’s executive team.

The position is based in San Francisco and will report to the VP, Business Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Own strategic projects through their entire lifecycle, from proposal/scoping phase to gathering requirements, providing regular status updates, analyzing data, synthesizing findings, and presenting results to Volta leadership, cross-functional partners, and customers
  • Interview technical and non-technical project stakeholders to learn processes, understand requirements, test hypotheses, and/or secure buy-in
  • Extract insights from large data sets used for financial and operational management; vet the quality of source data and identify data fields and reports that need to be fixed
  • Regularly write management-facing memos and slides summarizing key findings from your investigations and recommending process changes, policy changes, and investment opportunities
  • Create and maintain dashboards and models of key metrics and business drivers

Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years work experience at a top-tier management consulting firm or corporate strategy team, or experience at a late-stage startup in a role focused on insights and operational strategy
  • Top-decile Microsoft Excel expertise, including proficient usage of index matches and lookup functions, data validation, conditional formatting, paste special options, text manipulation and parsing functions, error handling, and conditional count/sum/if formulas; bonus points for ability to use array formulas and record and write macros
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, coupled with experience effectively presenting data-driven insights to company leaders and/or external customers
  • Experience using BI tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker) and CRM software (e.g. Salesforce) to pull reports, perform analyses, and vet data quality
  • Ability to write basic to intermediate SQL queries, or willingness to quickly learn as needed, is nice to have

Sample Projects:

  • Analyze sales cycle and station installation cycle to evaluate processes and produce recommendations for further optimization
  • Determine data requirements for customer support and user engagement functionality; drive implementation and run post-implementation analytics, reporting, and forecasting
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities for additional data capture related to station utilization and customer engagement, and present the business case for investing resources to drive those changes
