“The front page of the internet," Reddit brings over 430 million people together each month through their common interests, inviting them to share, vote, comment, and create across thousands of communities. Come for the cats, stay for the empathy.

Reddit is doubling down on video experiences. In 2018, we built on-platform video; in 2019, we built livestreaming; and in 2020, after years of double-digit month-over-month growth, we're elevating video to become an even more prominent part of Reddit. You will lay the analytical foundation for a world-class video experience on Reddit by partnering with feature engineering, video infrastructure and product management teams.

How You’ll Have Impact:

Video is the future of the internet, and as the first data analyst to partner with the Video team, you will have a tremendous opportunity to directly shape the future of Reddit. Our video content spans both uploaded videos and the Reddit Public Access Network (RPAN), a video streaming platform. RPAN is the newest way to create content on Reddit, and thus far it has been a viral hit among our users. You’ll have a front row seat as we learn what video and RPAN will become!

What You’ll Learn:

You’ll become the expert on the ways Redditors discover and engage with video on the site, and you’ll have your finger on the pulse of vibrant community of RPAN creators and viewers. Video analytics is a rapidly developing space, and you’ll have the chance to learn how it works on the 6th most visited site on the web. Your work will help identify the stickiest parts of video viewing, find opportunities to better integrate video with other Reddit products such as Chat and Gold, and generally make media consumption a more compelling experience. You’ll develop incredible agility as this new product surface continues to evolve.

You will work side by side with a world-class org of Engineering, ML, Search, Data Science, Data Warehouse, and Analytics practitioners who work together to create a variety of capabilities for Reddit to be more successful in its decision-making and product creation. In this process, you will be exposed to a variety of new techniques in experimentation, statistical frameworks, machine learning, deep learning, and causal inference.

What You’ll Do:

  • Partner cross functionally to help define the Video team’s roadmap and initiatives.
  • Analyze trends in engagement in Reddit communities, and convert it into insights that drive higher levels of active engagement and content creation
  • Build and design analytic infrastructure that help the Video team tell detailed stories about the Redditors who love video content
  • Explore and build systems for video content recommendation
  • Design and evaluate A/B tests and product feature experiments to determine the effectiveness of product strategy
  • Define team metrics and goals and make them easily available through ETLs (extract/transform/load) and reporting dashboards

Who You Might Be:

  • 3+ years of experience in quantitative analytical roles, preferably for a consumer-facing video product
  • Proficiency with relational database (e.g., SQL)
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and programming languages (e.g., R / Python)
  • Results-oriented with a strong customer and business focus
  • Entrepreneurial and self-directed, demonstrated ability to innovate and bias toward action in fast-paced environments
  • Ability to communicate and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to tackle ambiguous and undefined problems
