Tribe & Karma of Segment

At Segment, we believe companies should be able to send their data wherever they want, whenever they want, with no fuss. Unfortunately, most product managers, analysts, and marketers spend too much time searching for the data they need, while engineers are stuck integrating the tools they want to use. Segment standardizes and streamlines data infrastructure with a single platform that collects, unifies, and sends data to hundreds of business tools with the flip of a switch. That way, our customers can focus on building amazing products and personalized messages for their customers, letting us take care of the complexities of processing their customer data reliably at scale. We’re in the running to power the entire customer data ecosystem, and we need the best people to take the market.

Product Analytics at Segment plays a key part in building increased understanding of our products, our customers, and our business so that we can help our teammates make better data-driven decisions. We work cross-functionally to develop and share insights, combining qualitative understanding and quantitative analysis. As a member of the team, you’ll have an opportunity to work with high-caliber individuals to drive strategic and operational improvements at our company.

Drive and Focus of the Role:

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, manage, develop, and build a team of world-class Product Analysts
  • Enable your team with repeatable frameworks for different types of analyses and reporting
  • Create a collaboration model that fosters strong relationships between Product and Analytics to tackle strategic and tactical problems
  • Align on prioritization based on impact and required investment, including engaging in annual & quarterly product planning

Your team will:

  • Formulate insights based on both in-depth analysis of data and qualitative understanding of our products, customers, and business
  • Be a trusted advisor to the Product and broader Engineering, Product, Design, and Security (EPDS) organizations and inform product design and product investment decisions, as well as help identify opportunities for improvement in operational processes
  • Use your collected knowledge and the power of data to inform company-level strategic decisions
  • Effectively communicate insights and analyses to a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Help stakeholders develop key performance metrics and help them achieve these targets

Some recent team projects include:

  • Developing machine learning models to help cross functional teams identify accounts at risk of churn at scale
  • Partnering with colleagues in Engineering to identify and implement AWS cost savings opportunities totaling tens of millions annually (see blog post)
  • Developing tools to help customers spot issues with their data collection at scale

What we're looking for:

  • 3+ years of people management experience and are excited to build, develop, and lead a high-performing team
  • 8+ years of work experience with data and analytics, including experience at technology startups
  • Synthesize and communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences, especially senior product leaders and executives
  • Develop strong trust and rapport with those leaders and executives to align on initiatives and priorities
  • Deep sense of curiosity, are highly analytical, and have strong business acumen
  • Drive insight through data
  • Excited about rolling up your sleeves and getting stuff done in an unstructured environment of a hyper-growth technology startup
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a quantitative or technical field; or equivalent years of experience
