Senior Risk Analyst
About the role
At Chime, managing risk is extremely important. Our goal is to keep our members’ accounts safe and provide them with uninterrupted access to their money while minimizing the company’s financial, regulatory, and reputational exposure. As a Senior Risk Analyst on the Risk Insights team, you will play a crucial role in helping us achieve both of these goals by partnering with our Fraud, Dispute, and Compliance Operations teams to investigate suspicious signals and behaviors, identifying patterns, and creating rules to either take automated action or queue them for further review. You will partner with our Business Intelligence and Analytics teams to develop cohorts and segments, identifying the areas of highest impact to the business and constructing/iterating on dashboards that display our member’s behavior in a meaningful and actionable manner. You will also work closely with our Data Science and Machine Learning teams to develop valuable data features, manage behavioral models’ intake/output, and leverage model scores to achieve our goals of balancing risk with customer experience.. You’ll diagnose problems and develop compelling, data-driven recommendations to minimize loss while driving growth and maintaining excellence in member experience. For Colorado based roles: In accordance with applicable law, this role has an annual starting salary of $126,000Â plus bonus, a competitive equity package, and benefits (see below). The actual pay may be higher depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
In this role, you can expect to
- Immerse yourself in our current risk, regulatory, and reputational mitigation methodologies
- Partner with Fraud, Dispute, and Compliance Operations teams to design and deploy risk mitigation tactics that will enable us to identify fraudulent behavior proactively
- Perform exploratory analyses on emerging fraud trends and execute advanced analysis across the Chime platform using SQL
- Collaborate with our Data Science and Machine Learning teams to develop behavioral models when well-defined rules are not an optimal path to fraudulent or non-compliant trends, patterns, or behavior identification
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the various tools and data relevant to managing risk such as device fingerprinting technology, behavioral biometrics, Selfie+ID technology, digital data and information that can be extracted (e.g. HTTP User Agent, IP addresses, IP Geographic data, app session related data, etc)
- Write and maintain the performance of rule sets that are referred to the Operations team’s review queues, create alerts, or take automated action, including building dashboards for senior management and stakeholder review
- Effectively present and communicate analyses to senior management and other stakeholders to drive business decisions
- Advise and mentor your peers within Chime with an eye towards up-leveling our analytical sophistication, especially regarding risk mitigation
- Assist in special projects and ad-hoc assignments upon request
To thrive in this role, you have
- At least 5 years of experience in a Data Analyst role, preferably with a focus in risk mitigation
- Intermediate to advanced experience in SQL, as well as experience with dashboarding tools like Looker and Tableau
- Solid analytical skills and an understanding of how to utilize data to target improvements and develop solutions to problems
- Proven ability of developing solutions that balance risk with providing best in-class customer experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills - you’ll need to speak with, and present to, both internal stakeholders and external business partners
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with the capability to make high-caliber decisions in real-time
- Energy to work as a team toward a goal to achieve desired results
- Functional programming experience with JavaScript (or Python, R, etc.) is a plus
