Strategy Lead, Development

ROLE OVERVIEW
Benchling is hiring a Development Lead for its Strategy team, who will be responsible for creating and executing a multi-year strategy in this market that sits downstream from discovery-stage research as part of the product lifecycle. We are looking for an entrepreneurial individual that thrives on results, enjoys the zero to one of new market creation, and is passionate about bringing products out of the lab and into the clinic (or onto a field or a shelf) from years of direct experience. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate structured thinking, exceptional communication skills, and deep empathy for our customers. The Strategy Lead will regularly collaborate with senior management, product, and all of our go-to-market (GTM) functions to help the organization execute on its mission and operating goals.
The ideal candidate will have experience with life sciences R&D, with some exposure to process development or manufacturing and have experience with strategic planning and/or GTM. Prior experience with high growth, software or technology companies (working within or alongside) is preferred.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Conduct primary qualitative and quantitative customer research to understand key problems, buyer personas, and unmet needs
- Map the competitive landscape and value chain/ecosystem
- Forge and foster strategic customer relationships
- Develop a multi-year strategic plan for the Development market, inclusive of customer adoption and revenue
- Present defensible cases to senior leaders for why (and why not) to pursue market opportunities
- Build relationships with cross-functional product and go-to-market (GTM) teams
- Collaborate closely with product, product marketing, sales, and customer experience teams to build, launch, sell, and grow adoption in the Development market
- Develop high-level product strategy with product management
- Develop messaging, including core value proposition, positioning, and differentiation with product marketing
- Develop a sales roadmap and work with sales to guide key deals and grow early customer adoption
- Support partnership and business development activities in the Development market
YOU
- 7-10+ years of combined experience working in life sciences strategy, management consulting, venture capital or private equity, and/or other related areas
- Possess a product-centric view of problem solving and an understanding of commercialization/go-to-market in software companies (GTM)
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong will to win in the marketplace
- Bias towards execution and proving ideas with customers
- Think in frameworks and first principles; comfortable explaining the “why” behind your thinking
- Communicate clearly across all mediums, especially written
- High degree of organization and attention to detail
- Prioritize well and move easily between long-term projects and short-term deal sprints
- Invest in building reusable processes and work products
