About Faire

We believe that the future is local. That’s why we created Faire, a marketplace that empowers small business owners and independent makers to buy and sell wholesale online. Our platform supports a thriving Shop Local community, and we’ve already connected more than 60,000 local retailers with 8,500 plus wholesale makers.

About this role

Faire is a company invested in good design—as a Design Research Manager, you’ll join a tight-knit, collaborative team of designers who care deeply about creating consistently beautiful and intuitive experiences across all our products. Our team is at the center of product work at Faire, designing experiences for the thousands of small retailers and maker brands growing their businesses in our marketplace.

As the first Design Research Manager at Faire, you’ll help shape Faire’s user research discipline from the ground up. You’ll bring design research best practices and experience to our team, helping improve our research quality and processes. Your work will help inform our product strategy and roadmap, and ensure that we are always designing experiences with our customers' needs in mind.

As a Design Research Manager, you will:

  • Lead a high-performing team of researchers
  • Maintain high levels of engagement across our core product teams
  • Work with people across the organization to identify user research goals and objectives, craft research plans, and execute on them
  • Run high-level qualitative fieldwork and test digital prototypes with our customers

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years managing design researchers (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience evaluating and testing digital and physical products. You're endlessly curious about people and their emotional needs, and also about the larger context they live in.
  • Great communication skills. You're deeply empathic and a great synthesizer of information. You present findings clearly and confidently, regardless of audience.
  • A collaborative approach. You’re a great partner to other designers and cross-functional teammates.
  • A growth-mindset. You’re open and receptive to feedback, and can adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • A sense of humor. We spend a lot of time together—sharing gifs and laughing over lunch keeps us energized and inspired throughout the day.

We value candidates that bring a range of experience from different industries and a variety of creative influences. If you’re a maker or retailer yourself and can bring first-hand experience and empathy for the small business and entrepreneurial journey, tell us your story!
