ABOUT THE ROLE:
Udemy is looking for a Director of Learning Science and Instructional Design who will help Udemy achieve its mission of improving lives through learning. In this role, you will report into the VP of Learning and serve as a partner, consultant and strategic advisor working across multiple teams, projects and priorities. In addition, you will lead a team of instructional designers focused on our enterprise product. You are a self-starter, able to build relationships and provide value as a trusted subject matter expert, while also navigating business and executional trade-offs. You are a multiplier manager who is a mentor, a coach and talent builder.

Here's what you'll be doing:

  • Work closely with the Learning team to advise and apply existing and emerging learning sciences to course development, with a focus on professional skills/ professional development in online settings.
  • Work closely with product teams to translate and apply your own, existing and emerging learning sciences research to product strategy and development, with a focus on professional skills/ professional development in online settings.
  • Research a broad variety of learning strategies to inform pedagogy, product and design decisions .
  • Collaborate with teams across Udemy to develop customer/instructor-facing materials that effectively communicate best practices in Learning Science, Adult Learning and Corporate Learning to prospective customers and other external stakeholders.
  • Develop and deliver workshops for internal training and capacity building on current research related to learning sciences and best practices.
  • Lead a small team of instructional designers who are focused on our enterprise product.

We're excited about you because you have:

  • A Master’s Degree or PhD in Learning Science, Education, Educational Technology, Educational Research, or a related field.
  • Experience designing, delivering or researching learning in multiple contexts (Corporate, Post-Secondary, K-12 Settings).
  • 3+ years managing a team of at least 3
  • Experience designing research using both quantitative and/or qualitative methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated track record of impact through influence and consultative efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage several projects and initiatives at once, executing against a broad roadmap.
  • Demonstrated ability to empathize and communicate with employees at all levels.
  • Adaptability, able to navigate and thrive amidst change and ambiguity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including written, verbal and visual communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation and synthesis skills, with an ability to adapt content to meet the target audience.
  • Proficiency using presentation technologies, google apps and spreadsheets.
