About Alto

We’re building a new kind of pharmacy to cure one of our healthcare system’s most startling ills: over 50% of prescriptions are never picked up. Because staying on track with doctor’s orders requires more than just delivering pills, we’re managing everything from insurance logistics to pricing, late-night questions to supply chain, and anything else that could stand in the way of effective treatment. Our more than 400 employees are dedicated to fulfilling medicine’s true purpose: to improve the quality of life for everyone who needs it. We’ve filled over 1 million prescriptions to date. To aid our calling, we’ve raised $354 million in funding, and we’re on track to achieve $1 billion in annual recurring revenue (ARR) by 2021. Join us as we prove just how much a pharmacy can deliver.

As one of the first designers at Alto, you will join a team creating a completely new pharmacy experience from the ground up. We use advanced technology and human empathy to advance a broken pharmacy industry into the modern era, and to make high-quality healthcare accessible to all.

Our mission at Alto is to fulfill medicine’s true purpose—to improve quality of life—for everyone who needs it. As a Lead Product Designer, you’ll work closely with your product manager and engineering lead to take ownership of solving our largest product challenges and be involved in the end-to-end development process, from early research and visioning, to polished pixels, quality assurance, and launch.

You are a generalist who owns projects from end-to-end, enjoys problem-solving, and values the real-world impact your work makes on our patients. We always put the patient experience first, and you do too. You are scrappy and resourceful, unafraid to dive into an unknown project but humble enough to make mistakes and iterate. You collaborate well cross-functionally, with both technical and non-technical roles and have strong communication skills to convey your ideas. You thrive on speed and wearing many hats, and you enjoy working on different parts of design (internal tools, B2C, B2B, brand).

Within your 1st month, you will ship small features to Alto’s products. You’ll familiarize yourself with our users, design process, and operations to learn how everything connects together. You’ll shadow our Pharmacy Operations, Patient Care, and Fulfillment Teams to understand Alto from every perspective, and you’ll even speak to real patients on a support call. By your 2nd month, you will contribute to the planning, scoping, and design of a larger project. By your 3rd month, you’ll possess the confidence and context to own and ship a large project or feature and never stop learning.

You are an ideal candidate if you:

  • Love breaking down complex problems, critical thinking and making data-driven decisions
  • Can demonstrate familiarity with prototyping, user research, Sketch & Adobe Creative Suite
  • Enjoy executing on multiple/diverse projects and iterating intensely
  • Contributed to high-level strategic decisions with the product team
  • Have 7+ years of experience shipping products and collaborating with large teams of developers, other designers and product managers
  • Have strong UX and visual design skills
  • Are familiar with basic CSS/HTML
  • Thrive in a dynamic fast-paced environment where you own products from start to finish, and make decisions quickly and independently
  • Possess strong communication skills
  • Believe in Alto’s mission and our company values
