Senior Manager, Product Design, UX
Meraki is paving the way to make Internet and Internet-powered devices easier than ever before. We enable organizations everywhere, from local libraries to hospitals to corporations operating worldwide, to focus on their mission and have networks that simply work.
We’re looking for an experienced UX/Product Designer Manager to join our team to help lead and grow the team that strives to simplify the experience for networking and IT products and professionals.
Meraki believes the quality of our products is dependent on that of our teams. We place a high value on cultivating the growth and development of our people. You will be an important person to help us deliver on this promise.
While our team’s primary focus is on software, we also find opportunities to collaborate with teams across the organization and think about how to improve the entire customer journey.
You will:
- Manage designers, build UX team culture, and plan for the growth, impact, and success of the UX team within Meraki.
- Provide strategic direction over multiple UX projects and cross-product experiences.
- Work to understand the sophisticated needs of IT administrators, help set a vision for the product grounded in those needs, and collaborate with a cross-functional team to build it iteratively. Cultivate, mentor, and be responsible for your team’s professional growth. Help manage, grow, and scale our team.
- Set the tone for the team to foster an inclusive, diverse, collaborative environment.
- Set and raise the bar for design excellence by providing feedback regularly to team members on their projects.
- Inspire and teach methods that enable teams to work effectively and efficiently within cross-functional teams (including Lean UX, Design Sprints, and Dual-track Agile).
- Be eager to envision, design, and promote future-state, cloud-based networking solutions.
- Balance user needs, business goals, and industry insights.
- Collaborate with partners in product management and engineering to define problems and explore the highest impact solutions. Build relationships that lead to more rewarding and impactful UX engagement.
- Articulate the thinking behind your decisions, because a key part of your job will be helping your team, your product partners and leadership stakeholders make informed decisions.
- Remove roadblocks, provide mentorship, set up professional and personal goal development, and make sure that the team is achieving the results outlined by one another.
- Foster an environment where people thrive. Inspire people and build forward momentum.
- Lead by example in creating a positive and supportive team environment that encourages collaboration, innovation, and empathetic discussion.
You are an ideal candidate if you have examples of how you’ve done some of the following:
- Managed and inspired high performing designers.
- Designed solutions for sophisticated domains and workflows, understanding the complexities to make them simpler and more approachable.
- Shipped well-crafted and elegant designs.
- Established relationships with product teams (including engineering and product management), grew their understanding of the design and worked cross-functionally to define and prioritize problems.
- Dug deeper to understand the user needs behind feature requests.
- Balanced exploring a space and developing a vision with shipping often and iteratively.
- Established, documented, and/or evolved a design system.
- Worked with developers to understand trade-offs and to ensure that the details are done right.
- Proactively investigated problems and proposed solutions.
- 6+ years of experience as a design leader and at least 3 years managing a team.
