Role: Product Designer

Location:  Palo Alto, CA

Reports To: VP of Design

About You:

As we scale our in-house design team, we are looking for a Designer to help set the standards and create the roadmap for the Hippo product and brand. You are a passionate and strategic thinker who loves collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate business and customer goals into delightful, innovative solutions. You also thrive in a fast paced, hyper growth environment. 

You are energized by leveraging your experience to tackle design challenges and problem solve across the board. You have high empathy and understanding for our users in the InsurTech space, which is core to our design process and working with our customers and stakeholders. You deeply care and understand the close partnership and the critical relationship between design, engineering  technical collaboration, and delivery of final designs for mobile and web.

As a designer and member of the creative team, you express your ideas with a variety of media including hand sketches, low and high level prototypes, for example. By nature, you are curious, an open-minded partner with low ego eager to solve any problem with the team. You have a growth mindset and thrive on continuous learning. 

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with all project team members involved in concept design, design development and documentation
  • Provide top brand, award-winning visuals for ecommerce websites, digital ad campaigns, mobile projects, social media, emails and presentations, applying best practices and strong design principles
  • Translate business and marketing objectives into designs that are clear, compelling, visually exciting, easy to use and emotionally engaging
  • Produce deliverables for every stage of the design process: wireframes, user flows, interactive prototypes, and pixel-perfect visual assets for web and mobile
  • Create style guides and design pattern libraries in support of our brand, cross-platform experiences to Help build, develop and maintain a set of best practices and operational guidelines to reduce and minimize production efforts
  • Partner with team members on all phases of the project, from translating ideas into visual concepts, through design development and refinement, to ensuring implementation of approved designs providing all required specifications
  • Oversee designs developed by external partners, including but not limited to email, social media, web, mobile, etc. ensuring all materials are on-brand and meet established visual standards

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of professional in-house design experience; agency experience a plus
  • Ability to solve problems and design elegant solutions at a systems level
  • Ability to clearly communicate user finding to key stakeholders 
  • Experience in user-centered design methods, exploration, storytelling and detailed interaction design
  • Experience designing for the web and mobile (ecommerce, email, online branding)
  • Proficiency with standard design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud; Sketch, Principle and animation skills are a must
  • Deep understanding and/or hands-on experience with user-interface design including interaction and visual
  • Ability to present work and being proactive in seeking and receiving constructive feedback
  • Past experiences  in illustration, photography, videography, and / or coding is a plus
