The Creative Team at Upwork is a tight-knit group that believes in not taking ourselves too seriously, creating awesome stuff, and having fun. You’ll have the opportunity to work on a wide range of interesting and complex projects including advertising, environmental design, video, motion graphics, print collateral, event graphics, and interactive design.
We’re looking for a globally-minded Sr Creative Director to inspire a boundless future of work, build amazing teams, put our community first, and have a bias towards action. Reporting to the VP, Integrated Marketing you’ll work closely with cross-functional leaders across the company. As the strategic leader in defining and executing our brand creative, you will oversee a team of designers, writers, creatives, videographers, and agency partners to execute on that vision. Your Responsibilities:
Lead a creative team to conceptualize and develop compelling integrated marketing campaigns
Articulate the Upwork narrative to inspire and engage Freelancers and Clients around the world
Be a leader, designer, conceptual thinker, mentor, communicator, and most importantly, a believer in our mission to create economic opportunities so that people have better lives
Recruit, develop and motivate a team around our mission
Bring a positive and can-do approach to solving large, strategic, and complex problems with simple and elegant design solutions that address project goals & requirements
You’ll utilize business and customer insights to create original, innovative, and meticulous designs that demonstrate excellent typographic and layout skills while adhering to our brand guidelines
Build strong relationships throughout the company to help unify our narrative and amplify our mission internally and externally
You clearly and confidently communicate and present design decisions, gather and implement feedback from project owners and other designers, and manage project owner's expectations

What it takes to catch our eye:
Seasoned visionary with expansive brand and advertising experience
8+ years managing teams with a track record of shipping inspiring, well-crafted work across mediums—print, web, mobile, video
You’ve delivered compelling stories - written and verbal in front of audiences of all sizes
Ability to inspire a team to bring conceptual ideas all the way through to fruition
An outstanding portfolio showcasing exceptional design and successful marketing campaigns as well as the required skills above
How to really knock our socks off:
Experience working across consumer, business, global and internal audiences a plus
Proven industry cred with award-winning campaigns and creative execution
Deep domain knowledge of staffing and talent platforms and/or two-sided marketplaces
