Job Description

As a member of the mechanical product development team, you will have the opportunity to use your creativity and diverse range of mechanical design experience to reinvent and influence the future of ultrasound technology. You will work as part of a cross-functional team and mentor fellow mechanical colleagues to deliver highly refined and clinically impactful imaging solutions. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you drive the design, analysis, prototyping of new concepts to prove out designs and scaling those concepts in volume manufacturing. You are expected to be independent, driven, and passionate about designing a high-quality product.

As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be: 

  • Leading development and definition of core mechanical systems for complex medical imaging systems and accessories - working cross-functionally to gather requirements, evaluate feasibility, perform detailed design and analysis, and create release documentation for manufacturing.
  • Partner closely with the Head of Mechanical Engineering to determine appropriate program resourcing needs, review and strategize around program/technical risks, and refine development tools that enable efficiencies in communication and “getting stuff done” across our global team.
  • Collaborate with the program management office in evaluating and influencing future development programs and products by providing mechanical engineering insight into the technology and product roadmaps.
  • Convey engineering expertise within Butterfly and across a global team of development and manufacturing partners.  Confidently put forth designs and development strategies based on clear rationale, alignment with product requirements, while articulating technical risks and mitigation plans as the senior mechanical decision-maker on a project. 
  • For other Hardware Department duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Baseline skills/experiences/attributes:

  • +8 years of experience in designing precision, reliable and high quality mechanical systems in for high volume manufacturing
  • Highly familiar with DFx (manufacturing, test, assembly) competencies and experience working with local and global suppliers and manufacturing partners
  • Expert in tolerance analysis and its statistical application (SPC, Cp, CpK)
  • Highly proficient in 3D CAD and PLM systems (Solidworks and Omnify preferred)
  • Track record developing complex electro-mechanical systems at scale with a solid understanding of thermal management solutions.
  • Post-pandemic, able to travel domestic and internationally up to 20%.

Ideally, you also have these skills/experiences/attributes (but it’s ok if you don’t!):

  • Experience with developing 510(k) medical products
  • Familiarity of advance chip packaging techniques and impact on mechanical systems and architectures
