We're looking for a Staff Designer to lead Reddit’s emerging Developer Platform. This role is focused on designing and building external developer experiences like an app store for plugins and a playground for developers to test new features. This is a new team, so you will have the opportunity to contribute your skills up and down the stack as we grow. This team is all about building first-class developer tools that Reddittors will use to make their communities feel more connected online.
Designers serve a key role at Reddit, so we are looking for deep thinkers and accomplished collaborators. Our designers are expected to contribute at all levels of product development, from helping to set the vision to the craft of the smallest product details.
What You’ll Do
In this role, we are looking for someone with a background in or deep familiarity with developer experience. Ideally, you have written enough code to understand what separates a great API from a deeply frustrating one. This particular role will focus on:
- Building a dev playground (e.g. https://jsfiddle.net/)
- Creating an app store for installing bots & plugins (e.g. https://top.gg/)
- Contributing and collaborating with the design systems team
- Exploring Reddit’s rich creation tools, imagining new post & comment features
- Offering ideas for growing the code (and even no-code) literacy of our global communities
- Creating experiences across all developers, device form factors, products, regions without compromising consistency and simplicity.
What We Can Expect From You
We're looking for someone who thrives in this environment, who can be autonomous enough to always be moving forward, pragmatic enough to not get lost in the weeds, and ambitious enough to envision a Developer Platform enabling a richer, more connected Reddit ecosystem. Specifically, we’re looking for a designer with:
- 8+ years of experience in product design
- 3-5 years of experience building developer platforms
- Deep understanding of design tools such as: Figma, Framer, Adobe Creative Suite
- Strong visual design and prototyping skills
- Ability to work with complicated design systems and challenge existing constraints
How we work
We are agile, collaborative, and iterative. Our teams collaborate deeply to push the product forward together. In practice, our designers focus on improving the overall user experience, and iterating toward the best outcomes is the ultimate goal.
In addition to your application, please submit a portfolio or case studies that highlight the breadth and depth of your design experience. Applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
