Who We Are

Nuro is a robotics start-up whose mission is to accelerate the benefits of robotics for everyday life. We have an elite team of entrepreneurs and engineers, designers, and scientists. We believe AI and robotics are at the cusp of transforming daily life and we are dedicated to building meaningful products with this technology. Join us and play a critical role in our mission.

About the Role

We are excited to be bringing on our first user researcher! As Nuro’s only user researcher, you will have not just the opportunity to lead user research projects from start to finish, but also the chance to define what user research means at Nuro and train coworkers how to conduct research on their own. Given the broad scope of Nuro’s product team - including our vehicle user experience, our end-to-end delivery service, our fleet management tools, and our brand - you’ll have the opportunity to conduct research on a range of hardware, software, and brand questions, such as:

  • What do people think of our vehicle’s exterior design?

  • How can we make our vehicle’s touchscreen, doors, and compartments more accessible to users with disabilities?

  • What are the biggest pain points of our fleet managers and what tools can we build to help address their pain points?

  • How do pedestrians and drivers want to interact with self-driving cars?

  • How do communities feel about Nuro’s presence in their neighborhoods?

About the Work

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize research questions.

  • Distill research questions into thorough and efficient research plans.

  • Plan, conduct, and analyze research using a variety of methodologies such as ethnographic/field research, information architecture studies, surveys, and user/usability testing (remote and in-person).

  • Collect feedback across a wide range of areas, including software products, hardware products, and general brand and public perception.

  • Recruit and schedule representative panels of participants.

  • Moderate unbiased, candid, and insightful interviews.

  • Synthesize large amounts of qualitative data into clear, answer-first, “aha” learnings with compelling evidence.

  • Train coworkers how to conduct user research on their own.

  • Help define what user research should grow into at Nuro.

About You

  • You have strong product and design intuition. You understand what’s important to focus on throughout your research and analysis.

  • You have deep customer empathy. You have a strong desire to understand users and figure out how we can make their lives better. You enjoy being the voice of the user.

  • You’re an excellent communicator. You are able to present a compelling story that drives real impact across your company. You make participants comfortable sharing their candid thoughts in interviews.

  • You’re highly analytical and structured. You start with the goal and plan backwards, making sure your research achieves the original goal as thoroughly and efficiently as necessary. You can structure large amounts of qualitative data in a logical manner.

  • You hustle. You find a way to make things happen, even when the odds are stacked against you. You’re relentlessly resourceful and bias towards action. You have a track record of leading research and succeeding without help from other researchers.

Bonus Points

  • Experience conducting research on software products, hardware products, and brand perception.

  • Experience being one of the first researchers at a quickly growing company.

  • Experience conducting quantitative surveys.

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in Psychology, Human Factors, Anthropology, HCI or other related fields or equivalent practical experience.
