UX Researcher (SF/Bay Area or Remote)

DroneDeploy is looking for an experienced User Researcher to join our team. We are deeply focussed on our users, and research is critical in creating understanding and empathy around their needs, stated and unstated. You’ll partner with Product Management, Design, Engineering, and Marketing to obtain deep insights about our users’ behaviors and attitudes and to communicate results and recommendations across the company. You’ll get creative about new areas, test concepts as they are being developed, and evaluate products and services that have been deployed. You’ll visit our customers in the fields, construction sites, and facilities where they do their work. Your efforts will establish the processes that embed research within every project and have a meaningful impact on the direction of our products and services.
Responsibilities
- Identify and prioritize opportunities - Partner with design, product, and marketing colleagues to understand business needs and design appropriate research studies to generate focused insights.
- Manage Roadmap & Recruiting - Define and maintain a research roadmap to build longitudinal expertise in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. Manage recruiting and logistics for qualitative projects.
- Conduct research - Run collaborative cross-functional research programs from end-to-end leveraging methodologies to suit the question - lab studies, field visits, ethnography, surveys, benchmark studies, server logs, job shadowing, experiments (A/B testing), and participatory exercises.
- Share findings and advocate for results - Synthesize and communicate research findings to shape designs and inform product roadmap.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of product research experience, either in an end-to-end, usability, or generative setting.
- Experience conducting interviews, field visits, usability studies (live and remote)
- Experience integrating user research learnings into actionable product changes
- Strong understanding of different research methods (when do use quantitative vs qualitative, approaches to foundational and usability studies, etc.).
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience in driving and creating effective processes.
- Ability to speak to and educate teams about user research
- BA/BS degree in Anthropology, Human Factors, Psychology, HCI/Computer Science Design Research, or other related fields or equivalent practical experience.
- Comfort with ambiguous, complex problems
Bonus Points
- M.A/M.S./Ph.D. (in progress or completed) in Anthropology, Human Factors, Social Sciences, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, Product Design, Cognitive Psychology.
- Experience with research for industries such as agriculture, engineering, or energy
- Experience with geospatial analysis tools, drones, 3D modeling and/or mapping technologies
