About Faire:
Faire is an online wholesale marketplace built on the belief that the future is local—there are over 1M independent retailers in the U.S. and Canada doing more than twice the revenue of Walmart and Amazon combined. At Faire, we're using the power of tech, data, and machine learning to connect a thriving community of over 100,000 brands and local retailers around the world. Picture your favorite boutique in town; we're helping them discover the best products to sell in their stores. With the right tools and insights, we believe that we can level the playing field so that small businesses can compete with big box and ecommerce giants. We’re looking for smart, resourceful and passionate people to join us as we empower the shop local movement.
About this role:
As one of our first Content Designers at Faire, you’ll join a tight-knit, collaborative design team that cares deeply about creating beautiful and intuitive experiences. In this role, you’ll help shape Faire’s brand voice from within our product interfaces, writing UI copy that balances personality and delight with product usability. Working with team members across design, engineering, and product, you’ll strive to understand our customers’ challenges and craft flows that help people move through our products with confidence.
We’re looking for design-minded writers and content strategists who care about getting to know our customers, about the nuances of language and tone, and about the role of narrative in product design.
As a Content Designer, you will:
- Embed with a team of designers, engineers, and product managers focused on a specific pillar of our product, serving as the team’s content design expert
- Own UX writing for a set of features, considering everything from component copy in form fields to entire landing pages and information architecture
- Champion the voice of Faire in our products
- Participate in and/or lead user interviews and research to better understand customer motivations, language, and needs
- Contribute strategic thinking to our style guide and design system, as well as our product features and roadmap
- Jump into design tools as needed; previous experience with Figma, Whimsical or similar tools (or a strong willingness to learn) is great
What we’re looking for…
Experience shipping product
You’ve worked with designers, engineers, and PMs to take a feature from initial concept to live code. You know how to roll up your sleeves and dig in on content design needs, whether it’s rethinking information architecture, reducing friction in a flow, or finding the right balance of in-product education and getting out of the user’s way. You can speak the language of interaction design and have solid product intuition, and you’re ready to advocate for cohesive content experiences.
A knack for simplifying
Whether it’s turning a run-on into a 3-word phrase or defining the main “so what” of a new feature, you’re a master simplifier. You help teams fight the urge to over-explain by partnering with design to create experiences that are deceptively simple and intuitive.
A love for words
You understand the power of a perfectly timed pun. You know how to use punctuation to add rhythm, humor, or gravitas to a sentence. You have an opinion about em-dashes. Writing is your craft, and you find ways to infuse delight into the right moments to help bring our brand to life.
Qualifications:
- 3-5+ years in a UX writing or product design role. If you have other writing or UX experience that you think translates to this role well, we’d love to see your stuff, too.
- Great communication skills. You should be able to present your decisions and processes clearly and confidently, regardless of audience.
- A collaborative approach. You’re a great partner to other designers and your cross-functional teammates.
- A growth mindset. You’re open and receptive to feedback, and can adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- A sense of humor. We spend a lot of time together—even if that’s on Zoom these days. Sharing gifs and laughing over lunch keeps our team energized and inspired.
Why you’ll love working at Faire:
- We're entrepreneurs: We believe entrepreneurship is a calling and our mission is to empower entrepreneurs to chase their dreams. Every member of our team is an owner of the business and taking part in the founding process.
- We're using tech and machine learning to level the playing field: We're connecting brands and boutiques from all over the world, building a thriving community of over 100,000 small business owners.
- We're building products our customers love: Everything we do is in the service of helping our customers grow their businesses. Our goal is to grow the pie, not steal a piece from it. Running a small business is hard work; using Faire should be easy.
- We're curious and resourceful: We always find a way to get the job done and come up with creative solutions to whatever challenges we face together.
