We are looking for an experienced Camera (2D or ToF) Engineer to join our sensor hardware team and help us build some of the most sophisticated sensing for autonomous vehicles.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Conceptualize, design, develop, test, deploy, and optimize world-class optical systems for autonomous vehicles
  • Collaborate with software developers, systems engineers, and hardware teams to develop sensor specifications and testing based on perception and system product requirements.
  • Lead engagements with manufacturing partners and external suppliers to ensure timely execution of development projects
  • Effective upward and downward communication of critical information (design progress, critical milestones, issue resolution, preventative action etc.) as the program goes through the paces of a product development cycle.
  • Support leadership with quantitative analysis and risk navigation to enable efficient decision making.
  • Establish and maintain proper product development process, and sustain good documentation practices and change management.
  • Own, improve, and sustain reliable next-gen optical sensor testing and calibration processes
  • Evaluate novel imaging/non-imaging optical sensor technologies and support future roadmap and architecture planning

What you must have:

  • Education in Optical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience developing and delivering camera hardware
  • Deep expertise and proven contributions in a design, integration or testing role for camera modules/optical sensing systems in some core capacity (e.g.optical, EE, Optomechanical, firmware/software, test/calibration)
  • Experience with camera testing and calibration
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools such as MATLAB, Python, etc
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to attack and close on complex engineering problems
  • Understanding of the complexities of scaling a technically sophisticated product including: demonstrated knowledge of technology development processes, ability to direct allocation of resources and staff, balancing technical requirements, schedule, risk, and procedural and safety compliance
  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership, program direction and mentorship
  • Previous experience shipping a complex system at scale in a highly cross-functional, interdisciplinary engineering team environment
  • Strong technical and nontechnical communication skills
Bonus Points!
  • Experience with electro-optical systems design (e.g., Zemax, Fred, Comsol)
  • Familiarity with working in a mass production environment
  • Experience working with automotive OEMs, Tier 1, and Tier 2 suppliers
  • Exposure to firmware design and/or real-time systems
  • Experience with high-reliability/high-availability systems (e.g. aerospace, automotive, medical)
