The Role
The Conversation Engineer role is an Engineering role in which you get the build, implement and test Lark conversations. It's for people who enjoy thinking deeply about conversational user experience but more importantly, care about clean, scalable engineering implementations of those conversations. Conversations are the core of Lark’s user experience and are the primary way we influence user behavior at the scale for millions of users.
Implementation of conversational flows must be clean, scalable, well-tested, and modular. The Conversation Engineer needs to be comfortable jumping back and forth from a conversational design perspective and an engineering perspective. At the end of the day, the best coaching conversations are no good unless they’ve been implemented skillfully in code.
This position is responsible for working closely with Conversation Writers / Product Designers (non-technical), to create and implement conversations and conversational flows using custom tools and domain specific language (DSL) developed by Lark. This role requires confidence/experience in Javascript, as well as general engineering principles (e.g. reusability, testability, readability, etc). Deep understanding of backend software engineering is not required.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with conversation writers, product designers, backend engineers, clinical advisors and sales team members to design and architect new, efficacious coaching conversations (designed to help users change their behaviors)
- Implement conversational content in code using Javascript and internal tools
- Use Javascript to manage graphical assets in conversations
- Build and maintain the hierarchy of features in the Lark user experience
- Write automated tests for implemented conversations and functions
- Develop tool strategy and work with the Tools Engineering team to create/improve internal tools to optimize the conversation implementation experience (translation -- make your work easier on you!)
What You’ll Need
- Experience writing automated tests
- Interest in product and user experience, with an ability to clearly communicate it.
- Ability to learn fast and adapt based on feedback
- 2-3 yrs of software or QA engineering professional experience with at least one major coding effort
- 2+ years writing Javascript from scratch
- BA/BS in HCI, Computer Science, or related engineering field is preferred but not necessary
