About you:

Our Crunchyroll Technology Platform helps us scale to serve millions of users across the globe, and we are looking to expand our team of world-class engineers, so we can continue to innovate and offer rock-solid reliability to our content partners. You are a full-stack engineer and a professional with strong technical design principles, not a hacker. You understand the requirements and think before you code, adhere to principles of abstraction and best practices in API design, and are as cognizant of the limitations in what you build as you are of your capabilities. You are familiar with many technologies and can confidently pick the right tool for the job at hand.

DevOps Engineer

Location: San Francisco

Our headquarters is located in downtown San Francisco, where our group of cross-functional experts assemble to create experiences for Crunchyroll and VRV’s passionate communities.

About the Team

The Crunchyroll DevOps Team is a small group of highly skilled cloud engineers with a passion for automating the platform on which our software developers deploy their applications. Our customers are the software engineers and other business units within the company who work around us every day and need our support. We live to make things easier for them to rapidly develop, test, and deploy new features and applications. Working with the other engineering teams to make DevOps a culture at Crunchyroll is a key objective for the team in 2020 and beyond.

A day in the life of the DevOps Team

We run a 24/7 Global operation. Our team works in shifts and we handoff to the daytime shift in each timezone on a daily basis. We believe in working hard, having a work life balance, and striving to maintain it. The team supports each other when needed on both project work as well as on call rotations. We enjoy working with many different types of people on teams throughout the company and helping them to contribute to the smooth running of our platform and applications. AWS is a core component of our platform and we work with it daily. Another part of our daily lives is working with CICD tools such as Jenkins, Harness.io, and CircleCI. We onboard new features and applications every day and find ways to optimize our platform just as frequently.

About You

You care about your work and your team. You desire to automate repetitive tasks and reduce the overhead it takes for our engineers to develop their applications. Making work and daily life at Crunchyroll easier for everyone is important. You have a deep understanding of AWS and what you can do with it. You enjoy working with a diverse group of people from-and working-all over the world.

  • Proficiency writing clean, functional code to support infrastructure (Python, JSON, YAML)
  • Thorough understanding of infrastructure architecture and design coding style, fundamentals, and best practices
  • Strong proficiency with AWS cloud, based networking, and systems security (IAM, EC2, ELB, S3, VPC, Kinesis, etc)
  • Solid fundamentals in CICD automation tools and processes (Jenkins)
  • Familiarity with SQL based database engines (MySQL, MariaDB) and how they work
  • Proficiency with configuration management and automation (Git)
  • Proficiency with monitoring, system availability, fault detection, alerting, triage and recovery (NewRelic, Sumologic, Opsgenie)
  • Familiarity with Agile principles and processes

Nice to have

  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Proactive contribution to architectural discussions
  • Knowledge of Terraform and associated tools
  • Ability to write automation tests and advocate of TDD
  • Experience with CircleCI and Harness.io
  • Strong understanding of APIs and REST architecture
