About Your Role
As a Director of Engineering in Demand & User Acquisition, you will lead teams to build various application services and features to support the growth of Udemy business. You have a thorough knowledge of what it takes to build scalable, extensible technologies, as well as developing and growing product-focused, customer-oriented engineering teams. This role presents a significant intellectual, technical and operational challenges.
Here is what you will be doing:
- Drive the development of features and services that powers our marketplace demand generation and user acquisition
- Hire, build and manage high performance teams
- Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to strategize, define, refine and align on project initiatives and goals
- Translate requirements to solution vision and technical directions
- Communicate and align plans as well as dependencies to broader Engineering teams
- Coach individuals, inspire creative thinking and foster innovation with rigor in technical excellence
- Guide your teams in best practices around software development, documentation, coding standards, performance, fault tolerance and scalability
- Embrace our culture of collaboration, transparent, inclusive, respectful, feedback with open and direct communication
- Being resourceful with hands on coding (first 6 months)
- Research or prototype solutions and contribute to codebase as needed
We are excited about you because you have:
- B.S. Degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical fields
- 10+ years of software engineering experience and 5 plus years of building and managing software teams, managers and individual contributors
- Great track record of hiring top talents, mentor and grow talent
- Relevant knowledge in Marketing technology and domain competency
- Past experience in building tools and services leveraging machine learning
- Strong technical excellence plus experience with owning and shipping substantial product features that support consumer-scale web applications like Udemy.com
- Hands-on experience in design, architect, and deliver robust, scalable features and services with solid technical vision
- Strong leadership, communication and problem solving skills
- Ability to execute in fast-paced environments and performance-driven culture
- Knowledge of various open-source technologies such as: Python/Django, React/Mobx, ES6, Redis, and MySQL
