Director of Engineering, IoT

As the Director IoT, you will lead development efforts across our MV video cameras, MT sensors, and future IoT offerings. All of our IoT products are cloud-managed, but store and process data at the edge, enabling privacy, data sovereignty, and scalability. Our mission is to bring Meraki simplicity to how our customers understand, secure, and craft the physical environments of their businesses. We strive to delight our customers as they tackle problems and answer questions using our products.
In this role, you will lead globally distributed teams of embedded, video, ML, web, and QA engineers. You will provide technical mentorship, plan product development roadmaps, and craft and build an organization for a billion-dollar business.
You Will:
- Work with the CTO, product management, and other senior engineering leaders to set the technical vision and short/long-term plans for our IoT portfolio
- Partner with our recruiters to create strategies for building a diverse and inclusive team
- Mentor and coach managers and senior engineers through technical and non-technical challenges
- Develop career plans for your direct reports and help them do the same for theirs
- Encourage thoughtful and creative ways to recognize achievements on the team
- Lead performance, compensation, and promotion review processes
- Provide thoughtful counsel as a member of senior engineering leadership
- Assist with engineering-wide initiatives (off-sites, training, process evolution) several times per year
- Set the tone for an inclusive, diverse, collaborative environment where people thrive
- Serve as the highest escalation point for customer-facing issues on the team
You Have:
- 8+ years of experience in software development for video or embedded systems, with 4+ years in management or technical leadership roles
- Understanding of machine vision and machine learning technology
- Managed cross-functional teams of 10+ engineers and managers
- Experience leading and building trust with remote & distributed teams
- The ability to influence, facilitate discussion, and work in partnership with other teams
- Product/project management skills and an understanding of how to balance product requests against internal priorities
- Excellent written communication and presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to grow and mentor teams as well as lead them through change
