Overview


As Director of Mechanical Engineering you will collaborate with an experienced cross-functional team to develop new innovative products while making valuable improvements to our existing ground breaking products. Your proven leadership experience and engineering expertise will be invaluable in your role leading a team of 15-20 mechanical engineers and managers in San Francisco and Taiwan. This role reports to the VP Hardware and will be based out of our San Francisco, CA headquarters. 


What You Will Do


- Lead and grow a team of Mechanical Engineers and ME Managers

- Lead the execution of innovative new products and drive continuous improvement of current products

- Foster a productive, collaborative environment and build ownership and empowerment within the team

- Improve and unify best practices across the ME team throughout the development lifecycle

- Drive process improvements in areas like early engagement with suppliers, build/buy decisions, integrating DFx thinking, design review goals, and engineering validation

- Resolve product development challenges, manage trade offs, and drive to milestones with clear exit criteria

- Bring strong technical expertise and leadership skills to coach and mentor your managers and team members

- Engage deeply with cross-functional teams such as Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Program Management, Product Management, Industrial Design, Marketing, and Software

- Collaborate with the Hardware Engineering team leads from each of our disciplines: Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware, Reliability and Certification

- Communicate product development activities both internally and to our CMs and suppliers 


Who You Are


- 15+ years of experience developing electro-mechanical systems

- 7+ years managing product development teams

- Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline

- Experience in industries relevant to intelligent fitness equipment, such as robotics, automotive, aerospace, automation, or consumer appliances

- Proven track record building and maintaining productive work relationships, a positive environment, and a high-functioning multi-site team focused on getting it right

- Capacity for system-level thinking and proven ability to ensure details aren’t missed in the outcomes

- Demonstrated success driving the development of load-bearing, high-reliability, safety-critical systems from concept to mass production

- Natural instincts for making the right decisions to achieve the final product in an optimal number of iterations of DOEs and tooling

- Able to give and receive constructive feedback with self awareness and emotional intelligence

- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in group and individual settings

- Experience working with overseas Contract Manufacturing partners and suppliers

- Ability and willingness to travel overseas a few times per year
