Engineering Manager, Data
About the Role
Chime is looking for an engineering leader to help manage and guide the Data Engineering team to drive the company building scalable and self-serve Data infrastructure. As a manager of the data engineering team, you will lead the effort to enable Chime to democratize data by developing self-serving data infrastructure.
For Colorado based roles: In accordance with applicable law, this role has an annual starting salary of $191,500 plus bonus, a competitive equity package, and benefits (see below). The actual pay may be higher depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
In this role, you can expect to
- Work closely with our engineering leaders to Identify bottlenecks in our existing data infrastructure and guide the team through a path forward to improve and scale it. Ensure that technical decisions support our quality, performance, scalability, reliability, availability, and security goals
- Lead a high-caliber team of engineers to solve these problems while being hands on. Encourage innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement. Establish a sense of urgency and direction, set expectations with team and individuals.
- Establish team objectives in alignment with business goals
- Hire world-class engineers and provide technical guidance, career development, and mentoring to team members
- Lead key technical and design discussions with technical leads across engineering, and provide detailed guidance on technology and systems that should be used to track data as well as the exact data that should be collected
- Work with the program manager to execute for the projects that your team is responsible for
- Provide technical leadership to your team by giving guidance on designs and coding when time allows
- Help manage and consult in designing our data initiatives
- Build scalable data engineering solutions & frameworks to solve business and data problems
To thrive in this role, you have
- 2+ years of experience managing a data engineering team
- Strong hands- on experience in building data pipelines(batch and real time), data infrastructure for self service ETLs, data lakes, stream processing infrastructure..
- Strong advocate of data governance and data quality
- Strong experience working Big data processing tech stack e.g Spark, Flink, Big query, MPP.
- You enjoy mentoring engineers through considerate, timely and thoughtful feedback and provide guidance based on your engineering experience
- You care about the process of engineering, and continually strive to make things more scalable and safe while improving the velocity of engineers around you
- A desire to grow as an engineering leader through collaboration with a diverse team, code reviews, and learning new technologies
- Significant experience with one or more programming languages
- A willingness to tackle interesting problems with a team and following them through to the end
- The Ability to motivate a team through delivery on aggressive schedules and goals.
Nice to have
- Experience with AWS ecosystem
- Familiarity with scaling data systems with a focus on ROI
- Experience in building self-service data services
