Engineering Manager, Developer Experience
About the role
Chime is looking for an empathetic engineering leader to manage and guide our Developer Experience team. This team is responsible for the tools and processes that enable Chime engineers to build, test, and deploy code quickly and reliably. As a manager on this team, you will be supporting the team in automating the creation and management of dev/test environments in the cloud, writing software to streamline developer workflows, and building automation using principles like chatops and gitops.
This job cannot be performed in the state of Colorado.
In this role, you can expect to
- Work closely with Chime's development teams to identify trends, pain points, upcoming needs, and optimization opportunities to improve the effectiveness of engineers across the company.
- Guide the Developer Experience team in designing, developing, and scaling the tools, services, and processes used by Chime engineers.
- Act as the service owner for our CI/CD platforms, code coverage tools, feature flag systems, and other development tools.
- Partner with Product Managers to build short and long-term roadmaps, launch services, and prioritize features and bug fixes for internal Chime tools.
- Encourage innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement.
- Establish a sense of urgency and direction, set expectations with team and individuals. Establish team objectives in alignment with business goals.
- Contribute to overall engineering initiatives as a member of Chime’s engineering leadership team.
To thrive in this role, you have
- Experience managing multiple software development teams.
- A deep understanding of modern development practices and tools
- A customer-oriented focus, with a strong passion for developer happiness.
- Deep development experience in Ruby, Go, or another programming language.
- Experience with common infrastructure components like Kubernetes, AWS services, infrastructure-as-code tools, and service meshes.
- Experience with common development tools (CI/CD, code coverage, test frameworks, etc).
- Experience building developer-facing tools with an emphasis on simplicity, supportability, and ease-of-use.
