Engineering Manager, Engineering Operations
About the roleÂ
Chime is looking for an empathetic engineering leader to manage engineering operations initiatives. This is not a traditional engineering manager role. If you’ve yearned to step back from software delivery and focus on organizational health and happiness, this is an opportunity to do just that!
Engineering Operations is a new organization within Chime Engineering. We are an internal service provider with a mission to ensure that Chime engineers and engineering managers are happy, effective and efficient.Â
As an engineering manager in Eng Ops, you will support this mission by working closely with engineering leadership, cross-functional partners and the broader engineering organization to identify immediate and forward-looking areas of improvement and then design, build and run organizational tools, programs and initiatives to drive change. These could include services like Engineer Onboarding, Individual Growth & Career Paths, or initiatives which drive share our culture and values like psychological safety, crucial conversations, and regular feedback.
Chime engineering is growing rapidly, with the expectation that we’ll quadruple in size over the next two years. This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to help shape the culture, processes and identity of a world-changing engineering organization.
This job cannot be performed in the state of Colorado.
In this role, you can expect to
- Develop the vision, strategy & roadmap, establish team objectives, and deliver projects & services for one of our Engineering Operations pillars: Engineering Identity & Belonging, Craft & Collaboration or Career & Learning
- Leverage your leadership experience as an engineer or engineering manager to bring empathy to your initiatives
- Hire and support a team of operational staff to execute on day-to-day service & initiative design & delivery
- Listen to and learn from the entire engineering organization -- from new grads to the CTO -- to ensure we’re working on solving the right problems in the right way for the organization
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners on your initiatives and support programs driven by cross-functional leaders
- Pilot and roll-out your initiatives org-wide
- Qualitatively and quantitatively measure success of your initiatives, iterate, improve
- Present on the goals & impact of our work to all levels within the organization
To thrive in this role, you have
- Led engineering teams
- Experience driving cultural or behavioral change in an organization
- An ability to solve problems through a lens of diversity, equity and belonging
- Have a strong perspective on what makes up a healthy engineering organization
- Experiences with driving change, leading teams, and being a great people manager
- Are comfortable navigating through ambiguity, while identifying areas for organizational improvement and establishing best practices
- Have public or user-facing experience in ensuring communications are clear and succinct
- Have operational awareness: a sense of the big picture in any organization they inhabit, how team members’ individual goals contribute to that, and how they can help team members navigate best within the big picture
