The Challenge
Let’s face it, managing personal finances is hard. 70% of Americans struggle with at least one aspect of financial stability, 1 in 5 has no retirement savings, the average college student graduates with $37,000 in student loans, and the national credit card debt is over $1 trillion. At Digit, we’re building a smart financial assistant to help make financial health effortless for everyone.
We have a collaborative, diverse, and supportive culture and we look for people who are curious, ambitious, and mission-driven. If you’re passionate about building something that’s never been built before and helping real people every day we’re excited to meet you.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced and talented hands-on leader for our machine learning discipline to help build next-generation products at Digit. Your role will consist of driving the machine learning practice at Digit forward, owning the roadmap for both ML infrastructure and the development of data products that help us understand our user's financial picture, predict their financial future, and positively influence it through smart decision-making. You will primarily work with consumer financial data, which lends itself as the key ingredient for a variety of applications leveraging NLP, sequence forecasting/classification, time-series analysis and reinforcement learning. You will work side-by-side with our data scientists and ML engineers to design the future of our ML platform, enabling us to deliver impactful data products, both internally and to our end users. This role is based in San Francisco and reports to our VP of Engineering.
Here are some ways you’ll make an impact:

  • Own the roadmap for our ML infrastructure to make human-in-the-loop machine learning more efficient, from iterating on models to deploying them in production
  • Work with data scientists and other ML engineers to create the infrastructure to build and maintain the datasets on which we train our models
  • Serve as the ML center of excellence for other product/engineering teams, working with them when they need to integrate ML into their tools and products
  • Help Digit innovate through the application of ML in its core product offerings
  • Train and deploy your own models
  • Help evolve the ML practice at Digit
  • Manage a small but mighty team of ML engineers

Are you the candidate we are looking for? (Requirements for the role)

  • You know what good looks like in a production ML system
  • You have seen ML systems fail or go awry and can help Digit avoid similar pitfalls
  • You have experience building developer tools in the ML space, and have empathy for the developer’s user experience
  • You have a deep understanding of distributed systems and scalable design
  • You've shipped code to production and have worked in an environment where you've owned ML pipelines end-to-end
  • You have in-depth knowledge of machine learning and deep learning techniques
  • You have acted as technical lead on large projects and have some people management experience
  • You are excited to help build the machine learning org at a world class company

What we offer you:

  • Competitive salary and stock options
  • 100% paid medical, dental, & vision benefits
  • 18 weeks Parental Leave
  • Fertility Benefits
  • Catered lunches with unlimited snacks and drinks
  • Commuter and wellness benefits
  • Unlimited vacation policy
  • 401k plan
  • Brand new office in the heart of SF’s financial district
