The Payment Protection team helps customers proactively prevent payment fraud. Commerce and financial transactions are increasingly moving online. While the internet has enabled easier and instantaneous payments, it has also introduced a layer of anonymity between the transacting parties. We believe that machine learning is THE way to empower internet-scale businesses to prevent payment fraud. By providing a clear, accurate assessment of risk at multiple points of the end-user journey, we enable merchants to eliminate fraud losses, and create adaptive, frictionless experiences for low risk payments.

What you’ll do

• Work with a team of talented engineers and data scientists to deliver Sift’s Payment Protection product
• Drive the technical roadmap and priorities for the team, and work with dependencies across the company
• Hire additional top talent for your team, coach and develop each team member to make sure they continue to grow and thrive as a high-performing team
• Manage processes to help the team do its best work and interface effectively with the rest of the company
• Champion best practices for running highly scalable and performant systems end-to-end: from design to implementation, testing, deployment and ongoing operation
• Contribute to org-wide engineering initiatives as a member of Sift’s engineering leadership team

What would make you a strong fit

• 7+ years of experience as a software engineer, and 2+ years of experience as an engineering manager
• Managed engineering teams that built and operated systems at scale
• Strong technical expertise in highly scalable and performant distributed systems design and architecture
• Strong analytical thinking to understand how ML-powered products work
• Experience building systems that leverage machine learning
• Passionate about developing engineers and data scientists and supporting their career growth
• Strong communication and collaboration skills – experience working well cross functionally
• You are a self-starter, with a quick learning curve. You thrive on a high level of autonomy and responsibility

Bonus points

• Managed engineering teams that built products that leverage machine learning, statistics, natural language processing, or computer vision
• Familiar with practical challenges in large-scale ML systems, such as feature extraction and definition, data validation, training, monitoring, concept drift, management of features and models, and ML tools (e.g. Spark, Jupyter, Scikit-Learn, Tensorflow, PyTorch)
• Experience managing team members in a different time zones
• Knowledge in Payment domain
