The Vehicle Communications team is responsible for keeping our driverless cars connected on the road. They create on-car systems and proprietary algorithms to securely stream data to and from our autonomous vehicles. They use custom network protocols to deliver mission-critical vehicle commands and telematics with low latency even in low bandwidth areas. They are the API layer between the car and the cloud.
What you'll be doing:
- Lead the development and technical strategy of our end-to-end vehicle communication platform, a mission-critical system needed to operate our fleet of autonomous vehicles
- Manage a fast-paced and highly talented engineering team
- Hire top talent to grow the team while maintaining a high bar of excellence
- Work cross-functionally with customers and stakeholders to develop innovative and creative solutions to complex real-world communication problems
- Support the development of our next-generation technology in the Cruise Origin
- Provide technical guidance across our hardware, software, and testing infrastructure
- Communicate strategy and progress with stakeholders, including executives and the CTO
- Provide performance reviews, career guidance, and coaching to reports
What you must have:
- 3+ years of management experience
- Solid expertise in C & C++ and demonstrated experience in network programming
- Experience with Linux/Unix application development
- Solid understanding of wireless protocols (UDP, TCP)
- Passion for managing and growing team members
- Strong process and organizational skills that enable rapid software development
- Effective communication skills
Bonus Points!
- Experience with video codecs like MPEG2/4, H264/AVC, HEVC, etc.
- Experience in Linux/Unix kernel development
- Experience with embedded systems or hardware development
- Knowledge of WebRTC
