Experience of Go and AWS Lambda are strongly desired for this particular position but experience in building highly scalable consumer-facing applications in another stack like LAMP or Java will also be considered. At a minimum, 2+ years of experience outside academia is required.

This position is located in the SF Bay Area (remote through January 2022) and reports to the Chief Technology Officer.

What You'll do

  • Develop software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying systems flow, data usage and work processes; investigating problem areas; following the software development lifecycle
  • Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development and proposed solutions
  • Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code
  • Prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards and programming
  • Improve operations by conducting systems analysis; recommending changes in policies and procedures
  • Update job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Protect operations by keeping information confidential
  • Provide information by collecting, analyzing and summarizing development and service issues
  • Accomplish engineering and organization mission by completing related results as needed
  • Support and develop software engineers by providing advice, coaching and educational opportunities
  • First and foremost, developing software our users need
  • Collaborate with team to brainstorm and create new products
  • Make informed decisions quickly and taking ownership of services and applications at scale

What You'll Bring

  • 2+ years experience in full stack software development using a modern Javascript framework and a server-side language such as PHP, Java. Experience in Go and AWS Lambda would be a plus.
  • Strong MySQL knowledge, including command line SQL
  • You have a passion for creating software and learning new concepts, languages and approaches to software development
  • You have experience working in an environment where security and data privacy are paramount. Experience in environments adhering to standards such as HIPAA, PCI etc. would be desirable.
  • Problem solver with strong analytical abilities, and the ability to identify patterns and deliver secure and scalable solutions
  • Logging, monitoring and alerting is an obsession
  • Inquisitive, a fast thinker and a good decision maker
  • The ability to clearly communicate with non-technical team members and explain complex concepts in an easy to understand way
  • Highly organized and have the ability to juggle many tasks without losing sight of the highest priority items
  • Stay focused under pressure, prioritizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously in a very fast-paced environment
  • Extremely detail oriented, organized, a self-starter and a great communicator
  • Demonstrate high ownership and ability to drive issues to resolution
  • Communicate professionally, tactfully, and kindly while maintaining a high level of confidentiality at all times
