About the Role: 

Wing is looking for a hardware test and analysis engineer to join our Reliability team based in Palo Alto, CA.  The ideal candidate has experience developing and running hardware test setups as well as performing computational and data analyses, particularly related to vibration issues.  This position is an opportunity to combine problem solving design and analysis skills with hands-on laboratory work.

What You’ll Do: 

  • Vibration testing and analysis of aircraft components and structures
  • Develop multi-physics computational models to investigate observed aircraft behaviors in flight
  • Design and build automated test equipment for reliability and engineering tests
  • Perform system and component-level testing for reliability and durability
  • Expand in-house testing and analysis capabilities, researching, proposing, and bringing up new equipment
  • Write and run scripts to analyze test data and flight logs
  • Document test and analysis results and present finding to stakeholders
  • Work cross-functionally with a diverse team of electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to investigate and resolve hardware issues

What You’ll Need: 

  • 1+ years of experience building test hardware and analyzing vibrations in small unmanned aerial vehicles
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Knowledge of vibration analysis
  • Knowledge of finite element methods and other computational analysis techniques
  • Experience with SolidWorks designing test fixtures and assemblies
  • Experience using Arduino, Labjack, or other electronics platforms for test automation and data collection
  • Hands-on experience using vibration test and measurement equipment like electrodynamic shakers and piezoelectric accelerometers
  • Familiarity with common hardware reliability test methods (shock, drop, etc.)
  • Ability to write and run scripts using MATLAB or Python

Bonus: 

  • M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Knowledge of common parts and vibration sources in small UAVs
  • Experience specifying and bringing-up commercial test equipment
  • Passion or interest in aviation
