Position

GoPro is seeking a top tier candidate to take on the responsibility as, Head of HW Engineering. This role will also oversee the Advanced Engineering Group (AEG), which enables front end cross functional collaboration on product ideation, feasibility studies and conceptual designs, prior to moving into our product development cycle, we are looking for someone with a very strong product architecture background.

Within AEG, you will be responsible for developing the architecture for GoPro’s future, exciting, consumer product line. As the technical partner working closely with the product management and business teams, you drive tradeoff analyses involved in the various product concepts being evaluated and propose options for concepts that may have little precedent.

As Head of HW Engineering, you also have full responsibility for the product development cycle & engineering deliverables into mass production of all approved products that leave AEG.

Ideally, but not exclusively, a M.S. in Engineering is highly desirable along with 10+ years of experience in designing and developing advanced hardware for high-speed digital systems. The candidate needs to be a technical leader with successful time management and excellent communication skills. Occasional travel to Asia may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support HW Engineering, helping to shepherd product ideas from feasibility & conception within the Advanced Engineering Group into product execution and delivery with product development teams
  • Mentor and provide guidance to both junior and senior engineers.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with all teams to build a cohesive process to support our product strategy
  • Earn the trust of your team, and challenge them to grow.
  • Lead engineering discussions, design reviews and mentor others on technical implementation, engineering best practices, tools systems and career development.
  • Mentor teams who are managing technical and product development projects with business stakeholders
  • Gather business and functional requirements from external/internal customers, and translate requirements into technical specifications and architectures that are robust, scalable and supportable
  • Develop and document architecture specifications that serve as the reference for engineering and execution
  • Serve as technical lead throughout the full product execution lifecycle, end-to-end, from scoping, planning, conception, design, implementation and testing, to documentation, delivery and maintenance
  • Help drive technology roadmaps in areas of expertise to drive innovation and meet the needs of the long term product roadmap.

 Skills We’re Stoked About

  • M.S. degree in a related Engineering subject
  • 10+ years’ experience in digital camera systems hardware development.
  • Experience leading teams in high-speed digital camera hardware design.
  • Solid knowledge in and experience with image sensors, image processing chips, high-speed PCB design, power management, WIFI, 3G, 4G, USB, HDMI, etc...
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams
