Role: Information Security Engineer

Location: Palo Alto, CA

We use technology to create modernized, customer-centric home insurance and proactive maintenance services. We take our hyper-focus on customer satisfaction (buyer simplicity, comprehensive coverage, concierge service) a step further, by offering IoT Smart Home devices for monitoring home health. These devices, together with numerous other data sources (like aerial imagery and predictive actuarial data) allow us to proactively address problems before homeowners even know about them.

About you

To support our continuous growth, we are looking for an experienced Security Engineer to help ensure that our software and systems are designed and implemented to the highest security standards. The ideal candidate brings demonstrated experience in information security, system/network administration, and a deep understanding of cloud environments and their inherent infosec challenges. Preferred but not required: former work experience in the digital insurance or fintech sectors, and ideally a startup.

Responsibilities:

  • Advocate information security and secure practices throughout Hippo.
  • Ensure the smooth operation of Hippo’s security systems and controls, striving to maintain a strong information security program and enable comprehensive auditing and compliance.
  • Oversee and audit security components of Hippo’s IT systems, including Office365, email gateways, firewalls, anti-spam/phish/virus, etc.
  • Support a broad spectrum of technologies, including Public Clouds, Windows, Mac and Linux systems, network devices and applications developed in-house.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on creating and maintaining secure business processes.
  • Handle internal and external security escalations.
  • Lead information security programs, such as awareness training and vendor risk management.
  • Perform security research, analysis, and design to secure products, systems, and processes.
  • Facilitate vulnerability assessments and penetration tests. Work on security alerts, events, and security incidents, including forensics analysis.
  • Study the current threat scape, emerging related technologies, and risks relevant to our business.
  • Monitor security systems for anomalies and respond to potential security events.
  • Perform periodic policy compliance reviews, access audits, risk assessments, and controls testing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in information security, malware, and infrastructure security.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux Security, Single Sign On, Cloud Security, and network security
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory program requirements, such as ISO 27001, NIST, FISMA, and SOC standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills as well as strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Learning focused and passionate about working with a variety of tools and systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry certification: CISSP, CISM, or CISA, GIAC Security Essentials, Certified Ethical Hacker, GIAC Certified Incident Handler, etc.
  • Startup experience
  • InsurTech, FinTech experience
