Firefly is a category-defining and fast-growing Silicon Valley startup creating the next disruptive platform in Out-Of-Home Advertising. Firefly operates a network of Internet-Connected Digital Screens on the tops of rideshare platform (Lyft and Uber) drivers’ vehicles and taxis, thereby serving location and time dependent advertising and content for brands such as Turkish Airlines, Hotel Tonight, Venmo, Postmates, and Bonobos. 

Firefly is looking to bring on an experienced system engineer with a strong background in hardware design and development to be part of the firefly vision project. You will be challenged to build robust, real time, state of the art computer vision system that is at the heart of the firefly platform. You will work closely with system integrators that provide vision systems on the edge, product managers, data scientists and software architects to optimize, integrate and deploy state of the art computer vision application into the Firefly display. This vision application is one of the central aspects of the measurement and therefore core to the business.

Responsibilities

• Lead the new streaming media platform from concept, development and validation through manufacturing.
• Create detailed hardware product specifications and identify the performance and cost trade-off for a hardware product.
• Manage board partitioning, component selection, and design for high reliability and optimal performance. 
• Drive excellence in mechanical and electrical design of the outdoor technology across the entire product portfolio. 
• Work closely and collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary group including product management, system integrators, data scientists, software, and test engineering. 
• Negotiate schedules, resources, test plans with partners in coordination with procurement.
• Work with software team on bring-up and product performance tuning. Work will include but not limited to programming, debugging, testing, validation, documentation and/or deployment of the solution/product

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of hardware product design and development experience.
• Experience in linux camera frameworks.
• Understanding in RF design for LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Preferred Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, similar technical field of study
• Experience with linux kernel drivers and applications Linux framework knowledge (V4L2) a great plus
• Understanding of PCB design (schematic design and layout supervision)
• Knowledge of camera systems and Optics
• In depth understanding of PCIe Gen3, USB, UART and other peripheral interfaces
• Hands on experience in sensor integration.
• Hands on experience in EMI, ESD testing and ATE tests
• Hands on experience with high speed oscilloscopes, logic analyzer.
• Excellence in technical communication with peers and non-technical cohorts
