The Role:

The Resilience Engineering team is responsible for the overall availability of Grand Rounds. We are not an operations team but rather a group of software engineers building shared systems and tools to help all service owners meet their strict availability SLAs. Some of our upcoming projects include cross region Kubernetes federation, canary/blue green deployments with Istio and Tekton and improving our set of observability tools: logs, metrics and tracing. We also believe that getting to operational excellence is also cultural and as such we are responsible for the training, processes and maturity model of all services. 

We are looking for a hands-on engineer to lead the resilience engineering team. We believe lead engineers have a keen understanding of where our business is headed and mastery of their craft to help us get there. Specifically for the resilience engineering team, the ideal candidate should have a very strong understanding of operations, coupled with exceptional software engineering foundations and discipline.

About you:

• You have led and scaled teams teams that have built services with 99.99% availability and drove operational excellence
• You optimize for impact over progress and love getting stuff done (GSD)
• You care about software and are proud of what you do; to you it’s more than a job.
• You have a commanding grasp of Linux, networking and distributed systems and strong programming skills, CS fundamentals and a track record of implementing highly reliable software. However, a formal CS degree is not required.

What you will do:

• Lead and mentor a small team of engineers that will build systems to help we achieve a very high level of availability at Grand Rounds
• Partner with development and engineering teams to create and foster a culture of ownership over production systems.
• Set the technical direction of the resilience team at the 1+ year horizon
