The Kinship Hardware Team are the creators of Whistle which is the leading pet tech brand transforming the way we care for our pets by empowering the people who love them. As the pet wearable market leaders, we track pet’s health, location, and fitness, and provide access to on-demand televet services. By combining pet science and technology, our products help owners care for pets in ways not previously possible, and are changing the way we understand our pet’s overall health and well-being. Kinship is the tech division of Mars Petcare.

A BIT ABOUT OUR TEAM 

Our team designs for the foundation of Kinship’s business for all current and future hardware products. We provide research and technical insights that help shape the definition of new products, exploring emerging technologies that push boundaries and empower our business. We develop core driver and application functionality and maintain a comprehensive database of diagnostic device data to ensure that our products meet the high standard of quality that our customers have come to expect.

HOW YOU’LL HELP EVERYONE PET PARENT LIKE A PRO

This person will be part of a small, nimble and highly efficient team to be the hands on owner of developing systems to assure hardware product quality, testing and refurbishment. This is a great opportunity for a candidate looking for mentorship on their EE career path.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain an ongoing system to monitor, categorize and measure product quality and defect analysis. This includes product returns (RMAs), factory failures and identification of yield and test efficiency improvement opportunities.
  • Develop data analysis tools and processes to ensure understanding of failure root causes as well as development of corrective actions while coordinating with manufacturing, electrical engineering and firmware resources.
  • Communicate field and manufacturing failure data and response to management.
  • Work closely with Electrical Engineering, Firmware and Operations to develop manufacturing test specifications, processes and tools for new products. This will include coordinating with outside test design and implementation resources to ensure good test coverage and capacity to deliver a high quality consumer product in volumes to support customer demand
  • Maintain and optimize existing manufacturing test processes to improve throughput and test coverage as required.
  • Comfortable working with international manufacturing and test development teams both remotely and in person (Asia)

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering or other technical field.
  • 3+ years experience working in the consumer electronics or industrial electronics space 
  • Experienced and exposure to Electrical, Firmware and Mechanical Engineering.
  • Solid data analytics experience and ability to “connect the dots” between product failures and root cause
  • Has worked through development of one full product manufacturing test suite for a consumer electronics product.
  • Create, review, and approve Engineering Change Orders for electronic component management
  • Experience with common lab and test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experienced with manufacturing test development and implementation in overseas factories. 
  • Experienced with products that
  • use wireless communications (WiFi, BT, GPS, Sub-GHz and Cellular),
  • are battery powered,
  • are sold internationally.
  • Working knowledge of Python, C, C++ and LabView
  • Experience working with the design and implementation of board level test fixtures (bed of nails)
  • Good understanding and ability with PLM software (Agile/Propel)

Our San Francisco office is located in the Financial District, a quick walk from the Ferry Building, Union Square, and Salesforce Park. Convenient to BART(1 block from Montgomery Station), Muni, ferries, and cable cars. Great local restaurants, gyms, shopping, and bars nearby!
