About You and The Role
Are you a strong mechanical engineer with an expertise in battery pack design? We are looking for someone to design our next generation battery pack. We need you to combine cutting edge innovation with tried and true industry standards to produce the drone battery of the future. At the intersection of range, flight performance, safety, cost and longevity, our battery pack plays a central role in our mission. This is a broad role which includes mechanical design, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and manufacturing expertise.
Zipline is at the forefront of a logistics revolution: We design, manufacture, and operate our own fleet of autonomous drones to make deliveries of vital medical supplies to people in need within minutes, 7 days a week. We've completed more than 100,000 deliveries, many of which to patients in life-threatening situations.

What You'll Do
Design our next generation battery pack - cell layout, thermal solution, structural components, interface with the vehicle
Meet aggressive mass, environmental, packaging volume and thermal requirements
Prototype, test, simulate, and iterate on a design
Prove performance through validation and reliability testing
What You'll Bring
Mechanical expert in battery design for pouch and cylindrical cells
Thermal expert to bring industry best practices and design a reliable, simple, lightweight battery
2-3 years of experience with FEA and thermal simulation
Working knowledge using electrical components & microcontrollers (ex. raspberry pi)
History of solving complex multidisciplinary problems on schedule with little supervision
Nice to Have
Tooling design expertise - Your parts never have unwanted sink marks, knit lines, flash, or warpage because you know how to engineer it out before the tool is cut
Powertrain design expertise for high power high efficiency electric drive systems
FEA expert - You know how to analyze non-linear, large displacement static loads and dynamic transient and random loads
Experienced design to aerospace or automotive level validation standards
