Our Mission

At Span, we are building products to drive the rapid adoption of renewable energy and enable a more modern, flexible grid. Span’s smart panel replaces the standard electrical panel to become the center for connected power in the home, providing intelligent load-balancing and revolutionary edge-of-grid controls through the Span mobile app.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and driven new product introduction electrical engineer who will be the point person for transitioning new products from development into volume manufacturing operations.  As Span’s first electrical NPIE you will interact with multifunctional teams (design, manufacturing, quality, and sourcing) in global locations to implement new designs and components into production environments that achieve design, budget and quality targets. Your prior experience in new product introduction will be critical to help Span ramp rapidly and smoothly to meet the growing demand for our products.

As part of this, you will:

  • Lead electrical NPI activities during product development, launch, and manufacturing ramp.
  • Generate qualification plans for electrical components used in design, and work with test engineering counterparts both internally and at suppliers to determine the best methods and protocols for testing the system.
  • Apply knowledge of tooling, materials, fabrication, assembly, and best industry practices to optimize designs for manufacturability and assembly, cost, and quality.
  • Work hands-on with prototype generation, material evaluation, and experimental design and execution.
  • Work with test engineers to develop, implement, and validate new test plans and test fixtures.
  • Collaborate with the supply chain team to source and qualify new components to support rapid manufacturing ramps.
  • Review and evaluate designs and project activities for compliance with technology and development guidelines and standards; provide tangible feedback to improve product quality and drive improvements in costs where possible.
  • Participate in the change management and deviation process.  Generate engineering change orders and temporary deviations to release components and assemblies, manage build changes, make improvements and clarifications, and ensure requirements are implemented properly and in a timely fashion.
  • Work with quality engineers to drive failure root cause and corrective action.
  • Participate in product design reviews and offer design for manufacturing and design for test feedback to Span engineers.

  • PCB design and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience moving at least one product through the full product development life cycle, from prototype to mid/high volume manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and influence cross-functional teams, as well as work independently within a startup environment.
  • Enjoy working hands-on in all aspects of project work, which could include developing prototypes and/or production processes.
  • Ability to assess BOMs for the impact to the overall manufacturability of the assembly.
  • Understanding of design for manufacturability and quality concepts.
