The Role

The Span engineering team is made of experienced, passionate people with expertise in electronics, mechanical design, energy systems, and embedded software. We are seeking a passionate New Product Implementation Engineer with past experience in mechanical design and manufacturing processes to assist Span’s hardware new product development, manufacturing, and sourcing efforts.

 In this role, you will:

  • Work with design engineering and assist in transition of design prototypes into cost efficient and high volume products.

  • Review CM equipment and fixture design, process flow, equipment selection, DFM, and DOE proposals. Identify shortfalls and corrective actions to ensure design compliance.

  • Directly interface with our suppliers to improve:

    • DFM

    • SPC

    • Quality

  • Prepare plans for NPI projects and coordinate with stakeholders and ensure good quality products.

  • Develop product test plans and perform production test according manufacturing process instructions.

  • Support ECO procedures.

  • Work with Contract Manufacturer to develop SOPs and work instructions.

  • Analyze and recommend improvements to production process and methods to facilitate cost reduction and quality improvements.

  • Develop and troubleshoot test fixtures for electro-mechanical components.

About You

Required Qualifications

  • Familiarity with diverse manufacturing in plastics, metals, and assembly. Examples include Injection molding, CNC (milling, turning), forming (stamping, forging), finishing (polishing, blasting, lapping, anodization), coating (ink, paint), and assembly (gluing, laser welding, heat staking, ultrasonic welding, mechanical methods such as pressing, torquing).

  • Good understanding of Mechanical Design, GD&T, Failure Analysis, DOE, SPC and Statistical Analysis.

  • 2-4 years experience in launching new electronics products. Must have completed at least one full cycle hardware product launch.

  • Demonstrated capability to collaborate cross functionally with engineering, supply chain, quality, and third-party vendors.

  • Bachelors or Masters in Mechanical or Industrial engineering or related field.

  • Proficient in 3D CAD, 2D detailed drawings.

  • Is passionate about renewable energy and energy storage.

Bonus Qualifications

We would love to hire someone who has:

  • Demonstrated success working in a cross disciplinary, multi-cultural environment.

  • Knowledge of national and international safety and regulatory requirements such as UL, National Electric Code(NEC), IEC, and ISO.

  • Experience operating in high mix, low volume and high volume, low mix production environments.

  • Demonstrated skills in problem solving and conflict resolution;

  • Proven track record of successfully managing shifting deadlines and priorities in a fast paced environment.

  • Deploying test machines in a large scale manufacturing environment with ability to develop rapid methods for scaling and duplication of test equipment.
