In this role, you will be the technical authority on all aspects of our Perception stack. You will not only drive the optimization of our current perception stack, but partner with our Hardware Engineering leadership to set the sensor strategy for future vehicle generations. This versatile role requires a broad skill set and extensive collaboration with various teams within Cruise.
What you'll be doing:
- Collaborating with various specialists to get algorithms and ML models deployed and integrated into the Perception stack, with an eye on optimization and simplification of these procedures.
- Collaborating on runtime optimization and architecting highly performant perception pipelines.
- Working with hardware teams to guide compute requirements, sensor selection and sensor suite architecture in support of the perception stack, both for current and future vehicle generations.
- Working on integration of the sensor data into the stack, by designing highly efficient preprocessing pipelines that feed into our algorithms
- Gathering and organizing requirements for our hardware and sensor teams.
- Spotting and collaboratively closing gaps in tooling and data introspection to accelerate engineer velocity within Perception.

What you must have:
- BS, MS, or higher degree, in CS/CE/EE, or equivalent in industry experience
- 8+ years of experience in the field of robotics
- Strong programming skills in modern C++
- Strong understanding of runtime optimization and software development for runtime-critical systems on Linux
- Expertise working with various sensor technologies, including Lidar, Radar, and Camera
- Passionate about self driving car technology and its impact on the world
Bonus points!
- PhD in machine learning or computer science
- Experience with ROS, OpenCV, Gazebo, or PCL
- Experience with CUDA
- Experience with ML and ML frameworks such as Tensorflow, Caffe, and PyTorch
- Experience in deploying perception algorithms into real world environments
